Allergic reaction?

Hi guys,

It is me again! I know I must get aggravating! I have started itching after

I take my oxycodone. I just started on it last week and at first I thought it

was the pollen. But I have noticed that it is only after I take the oxycodone

that I start itching. It is not severe itching and there is no rash. Could it

be a reaction? Have any of you experienced this.

I have only been allergic to one other drug. It was skelaxin. They gave it

to me after they thought I passed a kidney stone about 4 years ago. Actually I

think it was a pancreatitis attack now that I look back on it. But I knew it

was a reaction for sure because I had a rach and severe itching.

Should I stop taking it if it is just a mild reaction? This is new to me so

I am not sure what to do.

Thanks,

Angie in SC

am not allergic.

Thanks again!

That is very common as with most narcotics.

Hello Angie,

When I done stomach surgery, the doctor put me on morphine catheter in my

spine and I also had a little bit of itch, not rash.

But many years ago I was having a real bad bout of throat pain. The ENT put

me on a common anti-inflamatory that I used in the past, Cataflan.

Well I took one and 8 hours after a second one. I woke up in the middle of

the night, with my face puffed, red and with a nasty rash, due a severe

allergic reaction. It was so bad that months after I was still pelling off..

My hubby rushed me to ER.

I had to use special medication to controll all reactions.

Soon after I discovered that my sore throat was from scarlet fever.

I think that you must talk to your doctor about this.

Stop your med without doctor's concern could be dangerous.

Good Luck,

Liane

Actually Angie, that is an allergic reaction. It is very common as

you can see. Have you ever had problems with taking codeine or

morphine? Generally a mild reaction like itching is not something

to worry about per se'. However, you always need to be guarding for

a more serious reaction. A lot of meds make me itch as well. I

take dilaudid when the pain gets too bad or when I am afraid of

taking too much vicodan. I ran out of benedryl and was in a ton of

pain, took the dilaudid and stayed up all night itching like a

mangey dog. I will always take some benedry when I take the

dilaudid. You can pick up some and take it also but please keep in

mind that it can make you very drowsy so I would not suggest taking

it when you are trying to do something important.

That was a great idea about adding Marks' web page to the favorites

list. I just did it. I have closed down all my pop up blockers and

still cant get into the pai chat. It keeps coming up as

unauthorized publisher and even going into the list of publishisher

I couldn't find Yahoo to delete/add it. I have spent so much time

trying to fix that it actually gave me aheadache. I amglad we are

getting to use Marks. The perv's didn't stick around too long...lol.

Most of us do not get email directly to our boxes. It can sometimes

be way too many for our systems. I go directly to the PAI homepage

and have placed the message board on my favorites list and all I

have to do is click that and I am here. You can edit your

membership to receive emails, digest, special notices or whatever

you want to receive. I just get special notices to my email box.

That saves me alot of memory space.

Let me know when you find out about the octreotide injection. The

one that had me on was the once a month type IM injection. I

am still kind of torn between seeing him or somebody else about this

possible hernia thingy. I have made an appt but I really DONT want

to. I am worried tho that since I have had so many big operations

and my guts are no where near normal that no body else would know

what to do with me. Its not that I dont trust him, he's an

excellent physician. I just dont want to be HIS patient anymore or

even see him again for that matter. I just want to put all that

behind me. The last few years have been an absolute nightmare and I

want to push all the bad experiences out of my memory. I sure do

wish I lived closer to Cincy, I would go back to the surgeon there.

But I need to have this thing taken care of so that I can go back to

work. If I just wanted to sit at home on my laurels, it wouldn't

bother me so much. Quite a quandry, huh.

Sorry to ramble so, hope your feeling better and try the benedryl

for the itching, it will help tremendously.

Warmly,

Thanks Liane,

It is not too bad just a little itchy. No rash. And from what others have

said it is common. I will watch it carefully. Thanks again!

,

You are such a help! Thanks. I have only had a reaction to skelaxin and this

is no where near that type. I had a bad rash and severe itching. This is just

for a little while right after I take the med. Morphine and demerol don't do

that to me. I am only taking 5 to 10 mg of the oxycodone. Strange huh! I will

get some benedryl. The benefit of the pain relief far outweigh the discomfort

from the itching!

I hope you don't have to have surgery again. I know you don't want to go

through that again! I know you want to go on and get all this nightmare behind

you. I would too! It is such a consuming thing! I feel like I lose days of my

life to this disease.

Do you mind me asking why you don't want to see again?

Thanks,
