I sent an e-mail out a couple days ago and didn't get a response so I don't know

if it went through. I am scheduled for a MRI?MRCP on 04/14/05. It has been a

long time since I had one. Is it a MRI specifically of the pancreas. Also does

anyone have bloating and swelling after eating eggs and biscuits. The eggs were

not fried I cooked them in an egg cooker.

I'm sorry Patty, I meant to respond to your post but had forgotten.

Taking all those drugs for so long has affected my short term

memory. I foget stuff all the time now... oh um what were we

talking about..haha just kidding.

I have had several MRCP's and its a piece of cake. Its very

similiar to a ct scan but the tube is longer. If you have problems

with closed in spaces let them know and they can give you something

to calm your nerves. that might be helpful but they will require

you to have somebody drive you home. I have never had a problem

with claustrophobia but even I had a little bit of shock in there, I

was able to calm down tho and slow my breathing, but it did freak me

out the first time. A little bit.

The mri takes a closer look at the internal organs with a more

specific slicing then the ct scan. Its more precise. they will

often inject you with a substance thats called secretin and it is to

stimulate the pancreas into functioning. So they will need to put

in a small IV. I had a reaction to it and it really upset my panc.

Not too bad, but it did solidfy in my mind that my panc was not

well. I wasa beginning to think it was psychosomatic. Anyway the

secretin does not hurt or anything going in but can cause a mild

pancreatic attack.

The MRCP takes about 40 minutes and you will need to be NPO for

about 4-6 hours. You will have to remove all jewlery and most

clothing. It was always kind of cold in there so dont be afraid to

ask for a blanket and a pillow. All and all it takes about 3 hours

depending on what they have going on in the radiology room. The

14th is on a thursday so you may want to give you boss a heads up

that you may not be in the next day. That will give you enough time

to feel better. That is if you have a reaction, a lot of people dont

and your doc may not have even ordered secretin (they usually do to

get a better look at the panc and ducts).

You can eat afterwards but do keep in mind that you may have a mild

reaction and your panc may act up a bit. So eat light until you

find out how you feel. I would strongly recommend having somebody

drive you. You will be in that long tube for almost an hour and it

is noisey (they can give you ear plugs if you like) but they will

ask you to breathe in and hold your breath a lot. That was the

hardest part for me. I took myself the last time and had no

problems at all as far as anxiety. That was last July I think.

Again, I am sorry I did not write you back the last time you asked.

It just slipped my mind. If you have anymore questions or just want

to talk about it, please feel free to ask away you can even email me

personally. I dont mind at all. I hope your doing OK and dont

worry about the MRCP, its a breeze.

Warmly,

I had an mrcp and it is a more detailed MRI of the pancreas. I made a big boo

boo after mine. I was hungry and my hubby and I went to eat. This was right

after I was diagnosed with CP and still didn't know too much. Well, being a

southerner to the bone I went out and had country fried steak and rice and

gravy.

Big mistake! Eat light afterwards if they give you any kind of dye or

injection. You will be glad you did.

I don't eat too may eggs because I just don't care for them much but they

don't generally bother me unless I cook them with fat.

Take care,
