Hi Susie,

I take Loritab 7.5. But, remember that individuals are all different, I don't

have constant pain only sporatic painful " attacks " . My attacks vary from mild

(four hours) to severe (seventy-two hours). Also, I have a textbook response

to the loritab, I can depend on pain relief beginning within 18 to 20 minutes

of taking this drug. Most often I take one pill every four hours and sometimes

need a second pill within an hour of the first to control the pain. Also I'm

one of the people with this disease that it is effective if I become immobil

at the onset of an attack.

Others with this disease just would not respond to the medication I take for

effective relied. And, it seems to be a trial and error process to determine

the best treatment.

BTW, did you check Donnatol on the Internet? That may provide useful

information. I just did that and came up with a reference to phenolbarbitol,

another

old narcotic remedy

Best wishes, Poncho - GA

Hi again Susie,

I currently take Donnatal. I have been taking it since 2002. It is

an anti-spasmodic medication. It helps with my daily pain with the

pancreas. Donnatal also " dries fluids " in some organs. I don't

know if I am explaining this right but if you go to webmd, or any

other medical site, just type in Donnatal and you will get an in

depth explanation about it. I was placed on Donnatal before I was

ever diagnosed with SOD and CP. I also used to take the maximum

daily amount just to make it through the day (I beieve it was 8

tablets in a 24 hr. period). I only take it 2 times a day now. But

I much prefer the tablets from the liquid. I tried the liquid

before, but found it to be extremely terrible tasting and it burned

the heck out of my throat and esophagus. The Donnatal helps to cut

down on the painful spasms caused by the biliary tree or pancreas,

etc. Do you see a specialst in the jersey area? I went to the

Univ. of Penn a few years back and saw Dr. Ginsberg. He is also a

very good endoscopist, but he is not an expert in pancreas related

problems. He performed my first sphincterotomy, but then became

confused as to why I was still having attacks. He did not do any

testing on my panc duct and that's where the continuing pain was

coming from. I do hope that the Donnatal works for you. It may not

completely cut out the attacks, but it may make them less severe or

less frequent. Hope this helps.

Take care.

Poncho,

I knew Donnatol sounded familier. I was thinking it was for upset stomach and

diarrhea. I didn't know that it was for pain. Is is chalkey colored?
