Guest guest
Hi Jean, I saw Dr Lehman in December of 2004. My experiences were ok, but nothing spectacular. I think I caught him at a bad time - it was the Monday after Christmas and it seemed as if he and his staff weren't really all the way back from the holidays! He is very kind and compassionate in his demeanor...but he is also very skeptical about what you tell him (or maybe it was just that he didn't seem to be paying attention)...that is, he seemed to use the good cop (resident) / bad cop (him) way of eliciting information instead of getting it beforehand from charts or correspondance (that is my biggest complaint - that he wasn't prepared in the least with my background and history). Because of this, I feel that any information that he was able to provide was not addressed to me specifically, but as a generalized case...that is, " people with this overall problem are treated this way " type of thing but not what I should do specifically in my particular case. Which was a disappointment. I left without any answers as to his opinion about what went wrong in my previous surgery and what I could do, if anything, to fix it and how I should manage this condition in the short term and long term (what medications, what monitoring labs I should do, what type of doctor I need to bring onto my case, etc). He also never followed through with a letter of follow-up that I requested he send. In addition, I have had a lot of problems with IU hospital in the billing department in that somehow my insurance cards are being used by another patient there and I am being billed for her clinic visits / procedures - which isn't Dr Lehman's fault, of course, but another thing that is making me less than pleased with my visit to that health system overall. Now, I do want to offer this mitigating information....I seem to have the worst luck with doctors than anyone else on this planet (hyperbole I know !) so Dr Lehman can be the best doctor in the whole wide world and still end up making me think that he is mean, brusk, or un-interested in my case. So my experience probably is not typical of the many, many people who have seen him, or Dr Sherman, and have had great success and wonderful rapport with them. I guess he is a very, get down to business type of guy..... " let's go after the obvious and easiest and not think about the complexities and subtleties of the many layers of the disease process " approach.
