Hi Everyone,

asked for proof that SCD helps detoxification. I sent some

articles about how the bacterial toxin, LPS, affects the liver, the

body's main detoxification organ. Removing the gut bacteria with SCD

will let the body heal from LPS injury to the liver.

LPS also impairs glutathione production and that is very important for

detox also.

If list mates still want more info then say so and I will fire away

more stuff about the relation of LPS to mercury and other heavy

metals..

Mimi;

What was requested was proof of the claim that SCD chelates. Posting

research in murine mammals regarding infusion of purified endotoxin has

nothing to do with chelation. It has no clinical significance with

regard to human pathology either.

Dear List Members,

The articles that I initially sent for proving that LPS, a bacterial

toxin, causes liver dysfunction were very advanced and unclear. To

someone who is not familiar with the topic, they might seem to not

have any thing to do with my assertion that LPS causes liver

dysfunction. I am sorry that I was rushed and sent unclear articles.

Since carefully reviewing my research this morning, I remain confident

that my information is correct.

The pertinent point is that LPS, a bacterial toxin, can cause liver

dysfunction. SCD starves out gram negative bacteria that produce LPS, so

implementing SCD could help since the liver is a major organ for

detoxification. It is clear that there is a huge amount of research

validating that LPS

does cause liver damage. I already cited proof in a previous posts.

I gave three examples of articles indicating LPS causes liver damage.

Will, a list member, accessed the full text versions of the abstracts

and claimed that

none of the articles backed my claims.

Only one of three abstracts I quoted has a free text

version available. This article contains sentences which make it

clear that LPS causes liver injury. You will find a copy of that

article on our website with the pertinent information highlighted.

As well, I am resending the link to the original full text article and

encourage you to read both versions to personally understand how LPS

does cause liver injury.

It is my opinion the articles I initially sent were unclear and

fairly difficult

to interpret. I hope that the abstracts that were posted later are

easier to understand. If doubts remain about LPS causing liver

dysfunction please let me know (in a civil

manner) and I will do my very best to seek and share further and clearer proof.

The full length version of the original article sent to the list:

http://ajpgi.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/282/1/G1

Copy of it with bold text to highlight the parts that state

that LPS causes liver dysfunction:

Here is the link to my previous post that discusses endotoxemia (LPS

poisoning ) and liver dysfunction:

It is agreed that the best way to prove the benefits of SCD for autism

would be with clinical trials. Will anyone here offer to help us

get going with clinical tests?

All the best,

Mimi

MiMi,

Thank you for your very helpful information. I am no expert in these matters

but am trying to learn as much as possible to help my boys along with the

healing process. One of the books that I have been reading is Children With

Starving Brains by Dr Jaquelyn McCandless, and she says that in order for her

patients to undergo chelation they must first have healthy bodies and immune

systems that are achieved through diet and supplementation. She said many

times, the child will improve just by this alone and their bodies begin to be

able to detoxify and do not need chelation afterall.

Thanks for your help and guidance! This support group has been such a

tremedous part of our lives for the past almost 11 months!

Hi Dana and ,

Thank you so much for your feedback regarding the articles that I sent

about liver dysfunction and bacterial toxins. I have collected more

articles about LPS and the liver and would love everyone's feedback

regarding these articles: both positive and negative. We are planning

to do a major research project regarding the power of LPS.

http://pecanbread.com/SCDresearch/LPSliver.html

The project was not meant to be a project to investigate the chelating

powers of SCD.

We are just investigating the influence of LPS on the brain, emotions,

digestion and immune system. We totally forgot to include liver

function until a few days ago.

I have seen many kids recover with SCD alone as the only biomedical

intervention. However, there is the possibility that other biomedical

interventions might be necessary for other kids. I really would like

to see careful medically supervised studies where observations and

test results are analysed.

I myself have no dogma about " SCD alone " being the answer. My passion

is seeing all the children get better. I think the answers will come

with professionally run surveys. I really want to see a scientific

research project. I want this list to help us get the research

project started.

Thank you again for your feedback. I am looking forward to more.

Mimi,

I will help. I would possibly be able to coordinate a formal study either

thru our local children's hospital or our local university. E-mail me off-list

to tell me what thoughts you have.

Dear Mimi and friends at Pecan Bread,

I first want to thank you all for helping us to become an SCD " fanatic " family.

Thanks to you and others who know how SCD truly works we have had much success!

This topic caught my eye and although our testimony is all antidotal I wanted to

contribute.

At one time we almost tried chelation. I learned from Elaine's archives, Mimi

and those who have done SCD before, that SCD helps the body to detox and chelate

itself. That one gentlemen did SCD just for this reason and it saved his life.

When I read about the NEGATIVE side affects of chelation in " Gut and Psychology

Syndrome " By Natasha Mcbride. Here is what Elaine G says about

Natasha's book:

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/elaine/dr_natasha_campbell_mcbride_and_s\

cd.htm<http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/elaine/dr_natasha_campbell_mcbrid\

e_and_scd.htm>

Most disturbing, I asked our DAN! if it was true that chelation could take away

giftedness (since my kids have been blessed with ASD but have gifts)...and to my

surprise Kucera M.D. (in Colorado Springs Colorado) said yes it could! I

told our DAN! that we where NOT going to trust it. That the research is WEAK

for both SCD and chelation and we choose to first trust SCD. This was partly

because we are financially struggling. Our DAN! and all his fancy tests where

very expensive! So we trust SCD for over a year now...and MOST Of the symptoms

of mercury poisoning have vanished. For those who do not know, many of the

symptoms that autistic children have are similar to heavy metal poisoning. In

one year of SCD our daughter has gone from moderately severe autism to high

functioning. Her night terrors, sleep disturbance and seizures have lessoned by

80%. If we could get her to talk more her diagnosis would change to Asbergers,

which is fine with us. She still has gut issues, but Elaine said that it takes

more than one year to heal...so we remain on SCD and continue to have faith.

Here are some quotes from Natasha McBride, she expresses her concerns

about Chelation Therapy. Pg 202-206:

" The first and most obvious thing to do is to remove the main source of

toxicity, which means cleaning up and healing the gut. However, removing the

major source of toxicity is not enough. What we do with all the toxins stored

over the years in these patient's bodies? What do we do with all the heavy

metals, which GAPS (gut and psychology syndrome) children and adults test

positive for? In recent years a new treatment has emerged-chelation of heavy

metals with chelating drugs....It is a hot topic at the moment..There are a

number of practitioners, mainly in the USA, who will administer these drugs to

autistic children...However, there are a number of issues here, which a lot of

people including me, do not fell comfortable about. Chelating drugs are drugs.

Like any drug they come with side effects and complications. These are not

benign substances. I have great concerns at the idea of using these drugs..Lets

have a look at some known problems: "

1.. " DMSA and other chelating drugs cause dose-related bone marrow

suppression... "

2.. " Chelating drugs cause an explosion of pathological fungal and bacterial

growth in the gut, probably due to the immune system suppression. This is why

doctors who practice chelation advice their patients to dealt with their gut

dysbiosis first before trying to chelate....all the experience in treating it we

still cannot say whether you can completely get rid of it. "

3.. " Apart from taking out heavy metals chelating drugs and essential minerals

as well and take them out of the body. They chelate zinc for example, this is

why sing has to be supplemented in very high doses prior and during chelaton.

However, doctors who have an experience with supplementing zinc know that it has

a very complex absorption mechanism, which requires normal stomach acidity.

GAPS patients do not have normal stomach acidity, which impairs absorption of

supplemented zinc. On top of this we know that GAPS patients are already

deficient in this essential mineral quite severely. Apart from zinc chelating

drugs chelate other essential minerals, which these patients are already

deficient in... "

4.. " Patients on chelating drugs who high amounts of enzymes called

transaminases in their blood, which is and indication of liver damage,

specifically damaged to hpetocytes (liver cells). "

5.. " Chelating drugs contraindicated in people with any renal problems because

they have a damaging effect on kidneys.. "

6.. " During chelation a long list of side effects are reported by the parents

of autistic children: regression in autistic symptoms, anorexia, fatigue,

irritability, nausea, sleep disturbances, diarrhea, flatulence, macular-papular

skin rash. I some cases such serious complications were observed...severe toxic

reaction with high fever, diarrhea, plyarthritis, erosive skin rash, myalgia,

pneumonitis,...hymolysis (red blood cell destruction)...neturopenia (low count

of blood cells..and thrombocytopenia (low count of thrombocytes,..responsible

for blood clotting). "

7.. " A number of autistic children are reported to be better while taking

chelation drugs, but regress back to the previous state as soon as chelation

stops. One explanation for this phenomenon may be that these children just

re-accumulate heavy metals from the environment as soon as chelation stops,

because their own detox system is unable to deal with these metals. "

She goes on to explain the benefits and how to do natural chelation with SCD

safe juices and foods. And further gives in depth discussion about how SCDiet

alone ultimately heals the gut and allows the liver and kidneys to go back to

normal function so that the body can chelate itself like nature intended. This

GAPS book is truly a must read to any parent of a person on the autism spectrum,

battling learning disability or mental illness. A wonderful addition to

Elaine's BTVC. I hope that this has helped you all. Again, thank you Mimi and

all! The SCDiet has transformed my family.

Antoinette,

Just curious -

Did you / do you take any " supplements " ? I'm truly curious what you do take,

if any.

(we won't chelate so that is not the basis of my question - and we got to SCD

through " Gut and Psychology Syndrome " By Natasha Mcbride.)
