Guest guest
just got back from pediatrician and one of the 10mos old twins is criticially anemic and very underweight 15# and not even on the graph (-3%). she happens to eat more than her 18# twin sister and quite a large variety of scd foods but i don't think she is digesting them. she has a leaky gutt like my asd 3 yr old son. she does repetetive things: hits the side of her head by her ear all the time, twirls around and around while holding her, and trances out forever in front of dvds. she has hypotomia and still can't hold her head up well. at 10 mos she just started sitting up and pulling up but doesn't put alot of weight on her feet. our state finally approved her for early intervention services but the wait for the dev pediatrician, state autism evaluator and rehab center for therapies is 3 mos or longer. what good is early intervention if you can't get it when you need it? what is the earliest autism can be diagnosed in babies? i keep hearing to not give baby iron supplements so i was wondering what to do for her? also, all 3 of my scd kids are underweight so i was wondering what we can do to fatten them up without porkrinds. Guest guest
First, I'm no doctor, but my son was early on set autism. I would stay strictly SCD, start supplementing with Cod Liver Oil, a good proboitic that a young child can take, and vitamin C. If you are vaccinating I would STOP NOW. It is better to be safe than sorry and you can always vacinate later if you want to. I've been told to use coconut oil to add calories. My son was always in the 5th percentile until we started SCD in December. since then he has gained 4 lbs. Do not get sucked into using rice protein powder like we did for over a year. It's a vicious cycle. Good luck, your child is young. I would worry more about over all health than wieght at this point. And trust me for two years I worried about every single meal and how much my son ate or did not eat. He looked terrible, like a Holocaust victim. I hope this helps. Guest guest
I'd put them both on Green Pasture Cod Liver Oil (www.greenpasture.org). When Vitamin A is low the body tends to hide iron away, and release it again when Vitamin A is restored. Cod liver oil is completely safe for babies. > > just got back from pediatrician and one of the 10mos old twins is > criticially anemic and very underweight 15# and not even on the graph > (-3%). she happens to eat more than her 18# twin sister and quite a > large variety of scd foods but i don't think she is digesting them. > she has a leaky gutt like my asd 3 yr old son. > > she does repetetive things: hits the side of her head by her ear all > the time, twirls around and around while holding her, and trances out > forever in front of dvds. she has hypotomia and still can't hold her > head up well. at 10 mos she just started sitting up and pulling up > but doesn't put alot of weight on her feet. > > our state finally approved her for early intervention services but > the wait for the dev pediatrician, state autism evaluator and rehab > center for therapies is 3 mos or longer. what good is early > intervention if you can't get it when you need it? what is the > earliest autism can be diagnosed in babies? > > i keep hearing to not give baby iron supplements so i was wondering > what to do for her? > > also, all 3 of my scd kids are underweight so i was wondering what we > can do to fatten them up without porkrinds. >
Guest guest
Hi mrsdeals, << just got back from pediatrician and one of the 10mos old twins is > criticially anemic and very underweight 15# and not even on the graph > (-3%). she happens to eat more than her 18# twin sister and quite a > large variety of scd foods >> What foods is she eating? Are they still receiving the illegal formula. There is information about a legal goat yogurt formula for infants at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/48267 You may want to restart with the intro diet in case she is having trouble with some of the legal foods that she is eating and to help flush out the illegals in the formula. After the intro we could help you determine which foods are best to introduce next and which will help to put some weight back on her. << i keep hearing to not give baby iron supplements so i was wondering what to do for her? >> While suffering from malabsorption I became anemic also. I had to correct the malabsorption to finally start absorbing iron from my food. I am eating good liver& some cooked spinach along with good sources of vitamin C. Your children may have an easier time with meat sources of iron instead of the veggie sources. It is essential to get some vitamin C to boost uptake of the iron into the body. When my son was a toddler he loved the homemade pate. Liver and homemade mayo. The mayo will help put weight (if they tolerate the mayo). << also, all 3 of my scd kids are underweight so i was wondering what we can do to fatten them up without porkrinds.>> Good sources of fat - but only if they are ready them - otherwise you are flushing the fat down the toilet. Good oils: olive oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, butter (ghee) yogurt, avocado, banana. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
