Carol, The SCD as described in Elaine's book is working for my son (ASD) too.

One question, I'm gaining weight on this diet. I feel good and I'm not hungry

all the time like before, but I'm gaining weight and this is not good. I try

to eat a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables. Maybe it's all the

oils in the nuts, plus honey in muffins or pancakes. I haven't been making

yogurt yet -- just getting organized -- maybe that will help my weight control.

I work out at the gym, take my lunch to work and pack fruits and vegetables with

it. When I do the nutritional analysis of a day on SCD, though, the fat/oil

content is pretty high. Maybe that's why I'm gaining weight. Maybe I should

stick with meat, yogurt, and vegetables, and skip the nuts, nut flours, and

raisins for now. But muffins made with pecan flour and raisins are so delicious

and I just eat one per day when they are around. Any ideas?

Thanks,

I'm a newcomer to this list but since I have a child who needs SCD and I need

all the help I

can get, I would ask you to please stay on this list! I'm sure that we all need

your

knowledge and experience, and your posts are a touchstone for the real SCD. I

feel

fortunate to have way to connect with you by email... so please do stay on this

list.

The detail in Donahue's post leads me to believe she couid contribute a

lot to the

list, more than I, She has had lots of SCD experience. I have asked the

moderators to

consider adding her to their team. Of course it can entail spending up to four

hours a day

on Pecanbread. She would be an ideal person to deal with OT, since my ability in

that area

exists on some topics but is limited.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad that Elaine's version of SCD does work

well for

me:-)

,

As I mentioned I lost 86 pounds BEFORE I became celiac and when I saw

how good the SCD food was I overdid it at first. Now my weight is

stable within 1-2 pounds at a normal level but I cannot exceed 1200

calories and yes I do find when I check my daily intake it is higher on

the fat side. I also exercise.

So many newcomers are underweight the parents get carried away with nut

flour baking. SCD isn't supposed to be low calorie but there are

exceptions and people like you and me who need to watch their weight.

I use

www.fitday.com

a free, versatile and useful nutrition tracking program.

Right now I am pretty fed up from the remarks made by Donahue. If

you don't see me posting to the list feel free to email. I want to

dialogue with people who do Elaine's SCD.

Pecan Muffins are my favorite and high in calories, For me, raisins are

addictive and should not be introduced until later if you are new on

SCD. I am pretty liberal with honey but it is a carb. You can make

yogurt with 2% milk but it isn't quite as delicious.

I have a salad almost evry day with lettuce, radicchio, capers, bleu

cheese, garlic, radishes, basil, oregano, a little wine vinegar, slat,

pepper a drop of honey and olive oil.

Mmm, that salad sounds great and very healthy. I agree that raisins are

dangerously addictive. Thanks for the ideas.
