Guest guest
I am new here and have no started SCD yet so I cannot speak to its legality... some companies mix it with various juices like blueberry and grape or strawberry etc. I am a HUGE fan of the more expensive (of course! lol ) Tahiatian Noni International brand, of course it costs more b/c they are a marketing company and pay back distributor bonuses. We drink enough of it that we are signed up as distributors, 1 oz a day, which is what is recommened costs you about $1 a day... so I call it my dollar-shot. It cleared up my young babies eczema (8 mo of age when we started) --and I played with this, I would take him off it, put him back on, no other changes, and his eczema would come and go depending on if he was on the juice or not. It did NOT clear up my autistic sons eczema, that took MB12 shots, but I didn't notice any adverse effects so he still gets it. As for me, its my miracle juice!!! I had a very bad ankle injury, complete ligament tear that was so swollen that tissue was bursting, I had periods so bad that I was calling my doctor to discuss a hysterectomy... Within two days of drinking the ankle swelling went down and I had my first normal period in my life... no cramps, no heavy bleeding etc. --oh and not a single headache since and I used to get them 3 times a week at least. I lived on motrin, and I havent taken one motrin in 2 years. The juice has natural anti-inflammatory properties to it, so it makes sense that these things would clear up. I really hope its legal!! Right now I am not currently a distributor for TNI, I let me account expire b/c I wanted to try a cheaper brand (get juice made from pulp, NOT from concentrate, the ones the give actual MG doseage are most likely from concentrate and may lose some properties in the process of turning it into a powder) --turns out I hate the cheaper brand. the benefits are the same, but I cannot stand the taste (noni itself is very bitter). So try different brands, if you can stomache the cheap stuff, go for it. My son will drink it!! my mom likes it... but not me! jenny > Has anyone explored this juice to see if it's legal? Guest guest
I did try it with my boys because of all of its claims. Immediately they began to have lots of diarrhea and I threw the rest of the very expensive bottle out. Guest guest
sometimes diarrhea is a side effect when you first start, this was the case with my oldest, but it only lasted 3 days, for my dad it didn't go away at all and he quit the noni, so I would say try it a while, see if you get a good effect from it, see if the diarrhea goes away, etc. > I did try it with my boys because of all of its claims. Guest guest
Dear , Despite the fact that noni is listed as illegal, I have to admit I've talked with parents of kids with ASD/LKS who said it helped them. My guess is that it's because it's anti-inflammatory, and anti-inflammatories seem to be the key for some kids. So I guess you have to go by your own experience. I wonder if noni is listed as illegal due to other added ingredients, or due to the properties of noni juice itself? Anyone know? Thanks, Webster wrote: I am new here and have no started SCD yet so I cannot speak to its legality... some companies mix it with various juices like blueberry and grape or strawberry etc. I am a HUGE fan of the more expensive (of course! lol ) Tahiatian Noni International brand, of course it costs more b/c they are a marketing company and pay back distributor bonuses. Guest guest
Did your boys have diarrhea issues in the past? My daughter never had those kinds of issues so I'm not sure it would have that effect or not. I know a mother who's tried this with her autistic kid and for them it's really helped. There are so many makers of it out there it's hard to sort out which one is best. I realize probably none of it is legal b/c of the unknowns but we deviate slightly at times for something that's worth the risk (risk/reward). Guest guest
Yes, certain things will cause them diarrhea and I have to be so careful. I did not give it a chance beyond the first drink because they had pure liquid diarrhea a few times the rest of the day and that was the only new thing introduced. I may have thrown the bottle away prematurely but just didn't want to take chances. chericontes wrote: Did your boys have diarrhea issues in the past? Guest guest
I will say that when we tried it quite a while ago, I did not realize it was illegal. I have learned that lesson the hard way with my boys having diarrhea and other not pleasant side effects in the first six months of this diet when we would unknowingly try something that had illegal ingredients. You have to look so closely at ingredients and compare to the legal/illegal list. My boys do so much better when I am careful to do this. Guest guest
I must say I've been amazed at what a reaction my son has when exposed to even very small amounts of illegals. I do believe that it is necessary to be fanatical, at least with my son it is. Even with tiny amounts of illegals, he starts wetting pants, having tantrums, and having less clear speech for about three days. It really is quite amazing, but probably no surprise to those of you who have been doing this for a while. dana pope wrote: I will say that when we tried it quite a while ago, I did not realize it was illegal. Guest guest
My daughter might not be as sensitive as your kids (it sounds). We've been SCD for 10 1/2 months. It's done an amazing job at detoxing (comparing her Metabolic & Oraganic acid labs from now to baseline) but the few times she has an infraction, I'm always waiting for the ball to drop and she almost always handles them without any side effects or setbacks. So yes, I do follow the diet very strictly but when it comes to supplements I allow for some flexibility. It seems to be OK for her. Note she was high functioning autistic when we began (we didn't start SCD slowly either, we allowed all SCD foods right away--although we just started goat yogurt in the last month and doing great) and she's beginning to completely fall off the spectrum and possible loose her diagnosis all together. We are very fortunate! > I will say that when we tried it quite a while ago, I did not realize it was illegal. Guest guest
This topic is OT, since Noni is an illegal food. I think it should be taken off-list, so that you are not comfusing new people to the list who thing that Noni is being recommended for SCD. - chericontes wrote: Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Guest guest
I agree that this topic should be taken off list. It is the toxins from gut bacteria that cause inflamation. The best treatment is always to eliminate the root cause of the problem and let the body heal. In this case, we want to avoid consuming any foods that will be feeding the gut bacteria. There is a study somewhere that demonstrated that SCDers lose the gut inflamation after doing SCD. The study was published in a medical journal and involved adults with GI problems.
