Since I was diagnosed I now lose huge amounts of hair daily. I have to clean the drain every time I shower, clean my brush every time I use it, use an adhesive roller brush on my clothes every time I change, etc., etc. It is unreal. Well, it was until I realized so many others with pancreatitis also experience significant hair loss. What was so scary at first was to see it fall out like patients undergoing chemo. The fact that this continues on a daily basis, must mean the hair is growing back. Otherwise I would be bald. My lashes have also fallen out. They have not been as successful growing back, though. And, the worst situation I am having regarding hair, is that with the hormonal changes induced by pancreatitis, I now have hair growing in places, generally reserved for men. And, yes, that always grows back, too. Karyn E. , RN, Exec. Guest guest
Dear Karyn, You wrote, Re: Hair loss " our hair must grow back " Isn't it nice to know your not alone in the good or in the bad? That is interesting that you mention it is partly hormonal. Before I had my hysterectomy I had wildly curly hair, now it has almost no curl. And yes those other places @#!?$ Our bodies are strange unfriendly places to live sometimes! All the best, Rhonda
Guest guest
Hair loss can also be caused by malnutrition. After having gastric bypass surgery I lost a ton of hair and I don't have much to start with. It did come back but it is thinner than it was before. Vitamins helped alot with this as well as protein supplements. Guest guest
I agree with Angie in SC that malnutrition is the major cause of why my hair was falling out. After I started drinking more milk at night and started eating better during the day. The hair loss stopped. Sincerely, Janet > > >
Guest guest
I spent 4 months in the hospital, 6 drains going, a lot of infections, and they had all kinds of antibiotics going in me. They blamed the antibiotics for the hair loss. I asked my doctor about it and he prescribed " Proscar " which is designed to make you urinate more. The side effect is that it regrows hair.
