Guest guest
Hi Karyn, I don't think i explained myself very well. Following a total pancreatectomy, a person will always have diabetes - but it doesn't necessarily have to be brittle diabetes. Personally, i had a total pancreatectomy without ICT in 2000, and have, therefore been diabetic since the operation. I have never had diabetic ketoacidosis, and only have occasional hypos. I always have hypo symptoms, and am therefore able to treat a hypo easily. I am unable to say whether a person would become diabetic following a whipples. I expect it would depend on how much of the pancreas was left, and the condition of it. Best wishes, Sue
