Guest guest
Hello. At almost 4 months on the SCD, I'm feeling much less sick than I have since all of my problems began. Since starting the SCD: energy levels greatly improved. anxiety and depression reduced. circadian rhythms normalized - struggled for years. rash on back completely gone, started 5 years ago. dark circles under my eyes are gone. muscle aches mostly gone. no longer " look sick " exercising every day. overall, have been much, much more productive It seems as though I'm making consistent improvement the longer I'm on the diet. Even though I've made a lot of improvements, unfortunately, I haven't been completely SCD legal this whole time. I would have if it were possible. When I first started the diet, I was taking hydrocortisone for adrenal insufficency which contained lactose monohydrate as its filler, which is illegal. Since I currently don't have insurance, I had to resort to ordering this hydrocortisone from an online pharmacy. Over the last few months, I was trying to get a prescription for this, so I could get it compounded with a legal filler. It turned out to be difficult to accomplish. Most doctors aren't comfortable prescribing this for adrenal issues, unless you have overt symptoms, like passing out unexpectedly. So it was difficult to find a doctor who could understand why I needed the hydrocortisone in the first place, but also why I needed to have it compounded for the SCD. Just last week, I had an appointment with a doctor that I used to see years ago. She was understanding enough to give me a prescription for compounded hydrocortisone. It's compounded with microcrystalline cellulose. Finally! Since starting the diet, I've just been staying on stage one foods. I would have introduced more foods, but didn't want to go any further until I got the hydrocortisone situation taken care of. Just a couple of questions for the group: Since, I'm now not taking anything illegal, do you think it would be a good idea to go back to the intro diet for a few days? Or is this necessary? I've been taking a small amount of coconut yogurt each day for the past month. I'm very interested in starting goat yogurt since it seems to be so helpful for many people. I've read that this is normally introduced at the 3 month mark, but in my case, when would you recommend I start introducing this? Thanks for any help,
Guest guest
Hello , << a good idea to go back to the intro diet for a few days? Or is ths > necessary? >> It shouldn't hurt to do the intro for a day or two, but probably isn't necessary unless you are having GI symptoms now. << I've been taking a small amount of coconut yogurt each day for the > past month. >> Coconut yogurt made with homemade coconut milk is legal. But coconut yogurt made with 'green' coconut water/water/milk from unripe coconuts is not legal. << I'm very interested in starting goat yogurt since it > seems to be so helpful for many people. I've read that this is > normally introduced at the 3 month mark, but in my case, when would > you recommend I start introducing this?>> Some people wait until three months before starting yogurt. Usually they have had bad dairy reactions in the past or have been CF for na extended period of time. You don't need to wait before trying dairy yogurt. When you start you will want to start with a small amount and gradually build up to a larger amount. Perhaps 1/4 tsp the first day and see how it goes. Glad to hear that you've seen lots of improvements already, Congrats!
