Hi,

Can the SCD yogurt cause yeast infections? Lately I find after I eat it, I get a

yeast infection.

Thanks,

I find that interesting because if I get a yeast infection I will put yogurt

down there for relief. It may be a die-off reaction. Sheila would probably

know better.

This can also mean that the yogurt is working... often when probiotics

especially a strong one is introduced, yeast will get worse before it gets

better.. think of it as the yeast's " last horah " .. trying valiantly to survive,

then eventually dying off.

Hi Sheila,

Thank you for answering. I use the directions on the Yogourmet starter

instructions. I bring cows milk to 180 degrees or till it boils. Then I let it

cool down to between 108 - 112 degrees ( usually to 110 degrees), stir the

starter in a small cupful of the cooled milk, then take that and mix with the

rest of milk. I incubate it for 24 hours, then refrigerate for at least 8 hours.

Some people have suggested die-off. I hope that is what it is because this is

getting frustrating! If it was die-off, how long would that last? I have been on

SCD since May 2006 (my son December 2005). Would you suggest some natural yeast

remedies? I have been thinking of S. Boulardi for my son for his Crohns, would

this be good for yeast? Also, would you suggest Oil of Oregano?

Please let me know if I am making it wrong or not. My main concern is for my son

who has been eating it- he does not need anymore problems!

Thanks so much Sheila! Glad to see you are back! I hope you are doing well!

hmmm... any chance that the yogurt isn't being fully fermented - are

you using the directions either in BTVC or on the pecanbread website ?

You should cool it to room temperature before adding it to be on the

safe side.

Hi,

I also meant to ask why it would cause yeast if it is not fermented enough or

incorrectly?

Thanks,

Belle

Because there still could be some lactose leftover if the bacterial

cultures did not ferment it properly, and as I've learned the hard way,

lactose is enough to set off all sorts of problems. It is a sugar, so

could feed yeast.

You should follow the yogurt making instructions that are in BTVC

(also on pecanbread) and cool the milk to room temperature or lower.

If the milk is too warm it can cause thermal shock and kill some of

the bacteria that you need to ferment the lactose in the milk.

When you eat the yogurt do you add fruit and/or honey to sweeten it?

Do you have any other yeast symptoms? Rashes, thrush etc...

Does your son have any yeast symptoms or other symptoms that are

still active?

Hi Belle,

If not fermented suficiently the lactose that is undigested may feed

some yeast and cause an overgrowth of yeast.
