Hi - welcome to our MGB family. I am a new post

op - so not sure that I can answer many of your

questions. I can tell you that your physical

situation sounds very familiar. You have found people

who understand where you are coming from and are so

very generous about sharing all their experiences with

you.

I just had my MGB on 12/13 and am doing GREAT. I have

lost 27 pounds and already feel so much better. I was

on 11 meds a day - now I am on only 2. I have more

energy than I have had in 2 years.

The procedure was almost pain free for me. Much

easier than childbirth. :)

I have been a diabetic for 10 years and feel that this

surgery has saved me from losing my legs and eyesight

to that terrible disease.

Read the manual and ask lots of questions. Good luck

on your quest!!

Hi I am a pre op and waiting for acceptance from my insurance company. I

was advised to email contacts privately and I got a great response and so

many good stories.... So when you see those who have had their surgery

already just email them privately and they will contact you... They've been

there and do understand...

Dear ,

Welcome to the group!! If you still need a contact, I would be glad to

help. You are lucky to live so close to Durham. I would suggest that in

your information gathering stage, you sit in on one of the clinics by Dr. R.

You will get tons of practical information and meet pre and post ops. Let

me know if you need anything.

Thank you Margaret! I'm glad to hear youre feeling great. I envy the post

opt people at this point. How long did it take for the whole thing from when

you started researching to when you decided to do it. got the packet in to

insurance approval and surgery planned? How long was surgery? How did you

find Dr. R in terms of his patience and understanding? Is he accessible if

you have further questions? Will you be on meds do to the surgery? How long

after were you on liquids? Whats the eating like in your future? and by the

way what happens to the big part of the stomach that they section or cut

off??

So many questions!!!

THanks for putting up with me.... Keep me posted on how youre feeling I

would love it know!

Regards,

Well I guess it's about time I introduce myself too. I have been lurking

around the list for a couple of weeks now. I found Dr R's website on the

web back before Thanksgiving as I was researching gastric bypass surgery. I

was mesmerized by the MGB procedure! Wow, a lap, and so much simpler than

other surgeries. I joined the mailing list around the middle of the

December and was amazed to see an email address I knew! Turns out two

people I know from another life are here! Flo in land and her daughter

Drema! What a hoot..... And all of you are absolutely right, Flo *is* one

in a million. Drema too is just the sweetest person.

Anyway,

My name is Lynda, I live in Oklahoma. I just turned 50. I have fought the

weight battle seems like all my life. I could pack on pounds at the sight

of a nice chocolate whatever! Most of my adult life I hung around the

number 200 like we were bonded at the hip. Then in 1992 I suffered an

accident that blew out all the ligaments in my ankles and I lost the weight

battle. I now weigh 290 pounds, as of December 23rd. Over the past six

years I have begun to experience the complications of obesity, hypertension,

shortness of breath, arthritic changes in my joints, shortness of breath,

can't see my ears. I've had enough, I want to grow very old and see my

grandson grow up and have children of his own.

With the support of my husband I have decided to go for it and try to get

this procedure. I have told one of my children and he is very supportive,

having talked to a former coworker about his experience with WSL. I already

have eight of my contacts and am working on my packet.

I've enjoyed reading about everyone's progress and look forward to joining

the ranks of the post-ops.

Hugs,

Lynda in Oklahoma

Hey Lynda,

Where in Oklahoma are you from. Several OK people have been to Durham. I

am just inside Missouri but am an OK native.
