Cindy,

The cause of your pancreatitis doesn't matter to us. It is

unimportant in the whole scale of things, what matters most to us is

to help you in the aftermath. We have members here who have gotten CP

from alcohol, gallbladder problems, pancreas divisim, prescription

medicines, heriditary, trauma to the pancreas, cistic fibrosis and

" idiopathic " , so you can see that the group truly represents the full

spectrum of all of the causes.

In trying to answer your questions as you wrote them; and ERCP is the

golden standard procedure to diagnose chronic pancreatitis. It's a

procedure where they put a scope down your throat and all the way

through your upper GI tract to see the condition of the pancreas. If

you go to Mark's pancreatitis site at:

www.top5plus5.com/

You can find all the technical information about this procedure and

any of the other medical procedures that are done for patients with

chronic pancreatitis. There's also TONS of other information there

concerning anything you would want to know.

There is the risk of having another pancreatitis attack as a result of

having the ERCP, yet it is easier, if you can say that, because you

are already in the hospital and your pancreatitis can be attended to

immediately under hospital supervision and care. Some patients don't

have any problems afterward, except for a sore throat, others have had

an attack, but were helped immediately.

Most of us have been told by our specialists to follow a low fat diet.

This diet limits our daily fat intake to no more than 30 grams of fat

daily, with four or five smaller meals, each meal having no more than

6-8 grams of fat. If you go to our " Files " section at the PAI yahoo

website, you can click on " Files " and then click on " Nutrition " on the

next page, and you'll see a section called " Diet Tips " . That page

will explain our diet and has all kinds of helpful information. If

you aren't posting from the yahoo website, you can click on the url at

the bottom of my signature, and that will take you to it.

Not that you need to be reminded, but in addition to the low fat diet,

alcohol is also forbidden, even the no-alcohol beers and wines. The

alcohol can do more damage than anything else.

Antioxidants are a special combination of minerals, vitamins and amino

acids that are taken to minimize pancreatitis attacks. A study was

done in Manchester, England on several patients who had pancreatitis.

They were given this specific combination of antioxidants over a

period of time, and it was proven that they had less pain and fewer

hospitalizations when they were taking these antioxidants. I have

been following this therapy and taking these antioxidants faithfully

until about three months ago. After what just happened to me this

past three weeks, I see I need to start taking them again. I will

post the full information on the antioxidant therapy on another post

after I finish this one.

I'm glad that you are feeling pretty good now. With hope, this will

continue, but don't be alarmed if you have more problems. Chronic

pancreatitis is a progressive condition, and after hearing about the

damage that you've already had, it wouldn't be uncommon for your

problems to escalate at some time in the future. If you can adjust

your diet, abstain from alcohol and take antioxidants, it would help

you tremendously.

Please post again with any questions, and we will help you as much as

we can. There's a wonderful group of people here, and I know everyone

will be anxious to welcome you.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Sriram,

CHeck in out files section under the " nutrition " heading, there are some

dieting tips and suggestions there, as well as some recipes. It's hard at first

to

find enough of what you need, eventually, with time, your knowledge

increases and you can find more than would seem possible.

Good luck!

Where do you live? Maybe there are some other members living in your

Hi Beau: I'm relatively new here (well about a yr and half I guess

now) but welcome and you've found a great place here. You will learn

more here than ANY doctor will ever tell or explain to you. So,

I am glad I just found this group to be able to talk to others about

the SCDiet.

I have a 3 year old daughter, who is having a lot of food issues, just

like me. She is not autistic. But also not what you would

call " normal " . We took her off gluten 10 months ago but nothing really

happened. I like to try the SCDiet to see whether things are going to

improve.

Could you give me some advice about what fruit juices to buy, and what

snacks to make for her? She cannot tolerate dairy products eighter.

I am thankful for every advice I could get. Manja
