Guest guest
Dear Christy, I'm pretty new to SCD too, just a couple months now, but my son absolutely loves the pancakes, muffins, and cakes in the Breaking the Vicious Cycle book. There are great foods available in this diet, very tasty, so hang in there, I'm sure your son will grow to love it. Mother of Virya, age 16, autism, LKS, etc., SCD since March 07 Daugherty wrote: Hi. I have a son who was diagnosed with ASD six months ago (he just turned 5). We have tried GF/CF diet. I've noticed a difference with gluten, but put some casein back into his diet because I didn't notice taking it out helped him. The reason I'm going to try SCD is because I've recently tried rice cakes with my son that have nothing but organic brown rice and sea salt and he was the worst I had ever seen as far as stimming and fogginess. I was so happy that he finally ate a rice cake and then stumped when he had such a bad reaction. I checked out Elaine's website and everything that she indicated was illegal were things my son seems to have a bad reaction to. I'm not sure how we're going to do this since he is such a picky eater, but I know it can be done. He's always loved carbs. He used to eat 10 pancakes at once when he was 18 months. Wish us luck. Guest guest
Hello, I am new. I have a daughter who is 3 1/2 . She got diagnosed with gluten sensitivity. She was off gluten for 10 months but we did not see any differences. She has been off dairy for two weeks and now she is finally developed an appetite for food. For the first time she actually said she is hungry. However, currently she only weighs 27 pounds. Her weight always worried me. The doctors tell me she is fine. But NO she is NOT. also has ezema all over her body. In the past we had issues with her not sleeping enough. She never slept longer than 45 minutes as a baby. She also grindes her teeth during sleep and suffers from night terrors. We started the SCDiet four days ago. Her exema is really improving, as well as her appetite. The dark circles under her eyes are getting better too. I am having a lot of food issues too. I am intolerant to almost everything. I also have a candida problem (thrush) and caught a parasite (blastocystis homininis). I suffer from chronic fatique, dizziness, weakness and often mix up words. At my daughters age I used to have all the problems she is now having. My parents did not know about gluten back then. Probably as a result of being gluten intolerant for most my life, I also develped Hashimotos (autoimmune thyroid disease). I have a lot of GI problems too. Those got better after going on the SCDiet with my daughter 4 days ago. However, for the last 4 days I am also having migrane headaches like crazy. Die off ??? Just wanted to say hello. I am currently working on a meal plan for my daughter. I am sure I'll have a lot of questions during the next weeks/months or even years to come. Guest guest
I'm glad you're already seeing such wonderful improvements for your daughter and yourself. I think the headaches are die off. I would just hang in there, and keep progressing slowly. I believe your daughter will begin to gain weight as time goes on. My son stayed right around the same weight for about a year. In the past several months, he has gained several pounds. He has been SCD for exactly one year now, and it has done wonders for him. I have discovered that my two year old son is going to need to stick to SCD even though he is neurotypical. My four year old is ASD, and we use SCD for him. The rest of the family has done it with him for the most part. Recently, all but he started to go back to more grains. My two year old immediately began to have severe eczema break out. Around this time last year...just before starting SCD...my then one year old had the most terrible eczema. Nothing would get rid of it. Shortly after my then three year old started SCD, it came to my attention through this group that eczema can also be caused by food intolerances...namely grains and other foods not allowed on SCD. We put him on it, and the eczema began to clear. It did take a steroid cream to clear up the last little bit, but it didn't come back. Just every so often he would get a little patch on the tops of his feet. Well, he has been allowed to eat more typical American foods in the past month, and has paid the price. I have moved him back to SCD, and the eczema immediately started to clear again. Other parents have reported the dark circles going away, more energy, ect. I think you will see a lot of good with SCD just based on what the past four days have brought you. Remember that the intro diet should not be done more than five days. After that, make sure that you introduce new foods one at a time, and spread the introduction out...maybe one new food every two to three days(like with a baby just beginning to eat solids). Watch for her reactions(and yours). It is helpful to keep a food journal with what she ate every day even down to herbs and spices used, bowel habits, behavioral habits, or any other things that you notice or she tells you. Also, are you giving her an acidopholus supplement? That is very important. Yeast is very opportunistic, and will be happy to overtake the empty space that other bad gut flora leaves behind. You need that good bacteria that acidopholus is to take up the empty space instead to aid her healing. Also back to the foods, make sure that any veggies or fruits are pealed, seeded, and well cooked for many months to come. This makes them the easiest for her digestion, and will help prevent the fruit or vegetable to become food for any bad flora that is remaining in her gut. Please feel free to ask questions, give concerns, ect. This group is a great resource. Meleah New to group Hello, I am new. I have a daughter who is 3 1/2 . She got diagnosed with gluten sensitivity.
