Guest guest
What would be a reasonable item to use to teach my child to swallow? With my girls, I used vit. E caps to practice with. My mom taught me with raisins. My son loves to chew both of those & he would just chew them up and not understand that I want him to swallow. He used to love to chew candex capsules, so if it looks like candex, he'll chew it! I am wondering if something like a small un-soaked lentil would be a good " practice pill " to use? Would that be too hard on his tummy? Any suggestions? He immitates well, but doesn't understand directions when it is something brand new. He understands the routine directions for things that happen regularly (go brush your teeth, put this away, flush, etc.). He would not understand that he is supposed to swallow without chewing, if I try to explain it verbally. He might get it if I used a new " swallowing item " that he had no previous eating experience with and had him immitate me. - --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? Guest guest
I just crush pills up using a pill crusher from the drugstore, and then mix with legal jam or honey plus jam, and my son takes whatever I give him. Since he has motor planning issues with his mouth, I don't think he can swallow pills safely. Rob or Sunseri wrote: What would be a reasonable item to use to teach my child to swallow? Guest guest
How far along is your son on the SCD? What stage foods is he eating? A small uncooked lentil might do the trick, but you'd have to watch out for worsening of symptoms. I understand what you're saying though about wanting to " teach " him to swallow a pill. It would certainly make things easier. Theresa (in Vancouver, Canada) IBS whole life, SCD 2 years > > What would be a reasonable item to use to teach my child to swallow? With my girls, I used vit.
