Guest guest
Please dont for one second feel guilty for having made mistakes in your past. First of all it doesn't matter how you got cp, just how you deal with it. We have all made mistakes and have regrets for one thing or another. That is just part of getting older. Every single thing that you had done in your past, good and bad, has made you into the person you are now; and you are a good person. You and your children are closer now then ever. You are very helpful and supportive of others as well as being nonjudgemental of others mistakes. I have regrets too, but wouldn't change a thing I am stronger and wiser for having experienced what I had. The recovery time for a Puestow and Whipple are about the same. 7-10 days in the hopital, no need for ICU unless there are contributing medical complication ie:cardiac disease. The recovery time at home is about 10 weeks, maybe 12. There will be drain tubes in place for the first few weeks until the internal incisions have healed. Usually a drain from the pancreas, which the fluid is clear by the way, I thought that was kind of funny. Of course this is from I have seen and each surgeon is a little different. The Puestow is a srugery to releive drainage problems in the panc. The pancreas is sliced open like a filet and the main panreatic duct is then sutured to the jejunum to allow drainage directly to the intestine. If your main cause of cp is a drainage issue, this should do the trick. However if you have calcifactions or fibrosis of the panc it will not. That is what the whipple will do. Remove the offending part. I chose to have the Beger procedure. It is a resection of the offending part of the pancreas without removing the duodenum or antrum of the stomach. To me the less removed the better. Is the tp- ict not an option for you at all? You had said in one post that 80% of your panc would need removal. I am just guessing, but would they be leaving that just for endocrine functions? If you have to have that much removed, I would think that a very serious discussion with your doctors about the total with auto islets would be warranted. How was the mrcp? Piece of cake, huh. Did they use secretin, did it bother you any? If there is anything I can help you with, please dont hesitate for one second. I have been in your boat and know just how rocky those seas can be.
