Guest guest
I know that many of you are in the same boat as I am in. Besides CP, I also am Diabetic and have several other health problems going on. I take 10 different medications daily. The problem is my sleeping patterns. I sleep 12 + hours a night and have absolutely no energy when I am awake. My Doctor(s) tell me that it's ok. But I can not function like this. Any ideas? How do others deal with this or am I alone? Thanks to all. Keep Smilin', Love, Cyndi
Guest guest
Cynthis, you might want to get your thyroid check. One of the main symptoms of hypothyroidism is exhaustion. I have it and I know that when it was at it's worst just before I was diagnosed with it, I spent nearly a whole week asleep. I'd be awake maybe a few hours a day. I'd get up to eat and take my meds, but once I sat down, I'd be asleep within a short period of time. Didn't matter how hard I fought it. I just couldn't stay awake. Now I'm on medication and I usually only sleep about 8 hours give or take. It's a simple blood test to have your thyroid check and better safe then sorry. Also, this disease (CP), can cause exhaustion too, just from malnution in our in ability to eat and also from malabsorption. With malabsorption, we just aren't getting all the nutrients we need from our food and that can leasd to exhaustion. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
I also suggest getting a thyroid check. I have hypothyroidism and am tired all the time. I can not seem to get enough sleep but don't seem to be able to sleep longer than 6 hours a night. Sandy in Ca

Guest guest
Cyndi, I'm in agreement with Kimber and Sandy about the thyroid check. I was experiencing symtoms just like yours and found out that I was hypothyroid. Once my medication adjusted, all of that fatigue was gone. Talk to your doctor about this, and have it checked. If it's not that, insist that he look further so you can get to the answer. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina Rep. Southeastern Reg. Guest guest
Cyndi, I have been alot more tired since I became diabetic. I have tried vitamins and different things and I still am tired. Some days are better than others. I find that my quality of sleep really affects me more than quantity. I can sometimes think I have slept 12 hours but in actuality I have slept about 4 because I keep waking up to move the heating pad or turn a different way because of the pain. When my pain is under control better I find I am not as tired. I hope you will be feeling better soon!! Guest guest
--- Cyndi Another suggestion. I have been experiencing extreme tiredness myself for the past few years and felt it was just another side effect of CP. I recently found out that I have been extremly enemic. I recall past blood tests(years worth) indicating that I have been enemic for years and past doctors have told me that I was but without offering anything to increase my iron levels. I expect they always thought it was a one off occasion. After seeing a new GP, he immediatly put me on 325mg Iron tablets along with 100mg Vitimin C tablets to aid the Iron tablets in absorbtion. I have been taking these for just a couple of months now but already notice the difference as in the past I have been chronically enemic. Just a suggestion. Guest guest
Thanks for all the help guys. Because I am an insulin requiring Type I (brittle) Diabetic I must see my Endocrinologist every 3 months and have blood work done. I already have Hypothyoroidism that is under control. My endo Dr and my PCP Dr. both tell me that my fatigue level is acceptable because of all my medical conditions and the medicines I take. But darn, I don't want to spend the rest of my life on the couch and in the bed. I already take several different types of vitamins. But (Mark) I did get one can of Red Bull (diet) and will try that. Will let you all know how it goes. Going to try it in the morning. Also saw my shrink on Weds and talked to him about it. He also thinks it is the effect of at least half my meds and the combination of medical conditions and I just need to accept it. Once I try the Red Bull I will send an update. At least Mr. P is behaving well on .25 mcg of Duragesic. Hope everyone else is doing well. Keep smilin' Love, Cyndi (in York SC)
Guest guest
Cyndi, Not to take away anything from Mark as he knows SO MUCH and I am so grateful for his knowledge on this board, but please check with your PCP BEFORE you drink that redbull. It can interact with your meds in such a way that you wouldn't believe. For just 1 instance, my husband is on blood pressure meds and naturally shouldn't drink energy drinks, but does and it does numbers on his numbers when I take his BP. It also mixes with his other meds. My friend who is going through Pharmacy school asked her professor about energy drinks and combining them with meds and she said it is a cocktail for disaster. If this drink works for you then great!!! But please check your meds on RXlist.com and with your PCP before drinking it. You may find you should not mix that with any meds you have taken within the last 24 hours. I was so surprised to see and read all the ingredients in energy drinks. About how long they stay active in your body and how they interact with your body and meds. I am also so tired that I can't move alot of the time or nap at the most inopportune times and my hypothyroidism is under control. My doctor also agrees that the fatigue we go through is normal for our illness. I tried to start drinking coffee, but wouldn't you know that my body can not handle that much caffeine. And why drink decaf coffee when it's the energy that I am trying to achieve. So I deal with this best I can. My joints ache so bad I thought my hip was out of socket for the last 2 months. I can barely walk sometimes. But today, it was just fine. I do walking because, although when I start out I am so tired I don't think I can continue...the more I walk the more energy I get. Sounds crazy, huh?! Just check out the interactions of red bull or any energy drink with the meds you are. I hope that I did not step on any toes here. I didn't mean to offend anyone either. I have just had bad experiences with people mixing energy drinks and meds and needed to say this. Sandy in Ca Jannello wrote: > > I did get one can of Red Bull (diet) and will try that. Guest guest
Just as an add on to Red Bull. It's been illegal here until just recently. Funny tho cos other stuff (smokeable) pretty much doesn't matter legally-wise but Red Bull was a no no. Weird huh? > Cyndi, > > , but please check with your PCP > BEFORE you drink that redbull. Guest guest
Sandy, if your joints ache, you might want to take Glucosamine sultfate. It doesn't interact with most medicines (I know because I take it and I'm on a lot of medications) and my doctor and anticoagulation clinic have both approved it. It can help repair cartilege (sp?) too. My doctor said the minimum dose is 1500mgs. My mom has bone spurs and she takes it too and hardly ever has any pain as long as she is taking the stuff. You can find it in most stores these days. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Note: All advice given is personal opinion, not equal to that of a licensed physician or health care professional. I felt like that for two years before I had the sleep study done and I had stopped breathing l54 times during that night. The doctor said I was using whatever energy I had just to restart breathing each time. The C-PAP machine helps stop the apnea and in a very short time, I felt like a real person again, not someone living in a fog. Ask your doctor about it!!! Might do the trick. Good luck.
