Guest guest
Hi Betty: Don't get discouraged. Hang in there! We have a girl in our support group MD, DC, VA who is about 7 weeks post op and has only lost 22 lbs. I think some people are just slow. And I am sure you have read about those plateaus. I am 8 weeks on the 25th of this month and I am the same way with salad and veggies. I feel like I can eat quite a bit. And they are the things I do best with. Meat, pasta, rice and those things I also don't eat much of. So just hang in there and hopefully things will pick up soon. Guest guest
Betty, I would love you to write Dr. R and ask him about this. I'm too new post-op to offer help, but I would love to hear his response. Also, be sure to let us know when you move off that plateau! You were one of the littler ones, maybe you will lose a little slower. Think? PhillyJude

Guest guest
I am about 7 weeks post. I have not lost any weight 4 weeks. I weighed 233 at clinic before surgery. I have weighed 208 for these last frustrating 4 weeks. I have lost nothing in my waist, but a good bit in arms, legs and neck. My problem is not really the plateau as much as the fact that I can eat almost anything I want to and in larger amounts that I thought I should want. I do not really like more than a bite or two of any meat, but I can eat regular size servings of most veggies and salad. I am not eating any pasta at all. The only sweet that I eat at all is a Yoo-Hoo over ice once a week. I am taking my meds pretty good and getting SOME exercise. I feel like maybe my tummy is back to its normal size. Now before hearing many no-no's I know that is not true. I just had to vent a little. I am not depressed and I take Zoloft every day and have for years. I have not got much energy. Thanks for listening. Betty in Western NC
Guest guest
Hi Betty, One more thing...in regards to the large amount of veggies and salads that you can eat. Think about a salad for a moment, if you were to take a piece of lettuce and chop it up real fine it would not be nearly as big in a compressed state as it is in its natural state. Once you've chewed a salad it is actually a very small amount in the tummy. It looks like a lot in a bowl but it's actually a lot less after being chewed. The same goes for veggies. Now meats, pastas and breads are much more dense and take up a lot more room in the tummy. I wouldn't be worried about the amount of salad and veggies you eat. Now if you start eating a 16 ounce steak then I would be concerned...:-). Love, Genz bettyjohn@... wrote: > I am about 7 weeks post. I have not lost any weight 4 weeks. Guest guest
Hi Trudy: I tried salad on the 4th week and salad and veggies seem to be the easiest stuff to eat for me. Just watch like celery and carrots. I can also eat more of them than meats, pasta, rice. Pam Mc from land MGB 9/25/00 296/

I'm putting in some solid foods this week, macaroni is like meat, don't go down good and takes up too much room, Popcorn was great, ate it slowly chewed till it practically disappeared, and couldn't feel it hit bottom. Guest guest
thanx Pam, I've seeing already that I can get away with somethings and not with others.. I know meat, chicken, bread, pastas, cheese, does not go down good. I can eat some sugar tho. popcorn, corn on the cob, granola bars, and tuna !! When meat etc.. goes down, it gets stuck at the end of my throat or hits bottom, I know aother piece will not make it down, so I quit. Now, I've learned it isn't worth the belly ache to eat it at all. (smiles) see I am learning Peej! I'm gonna try salad at the end of this week, I'll be 3 wks out. Just a bite (small one) at a time and see what happens..LOL Thanx again, Trudy Post-Op 11-3-00 Re: My New Tummy Hi Trudy: I tried salad on the 4th week and salad and veggies seem to be the easiest stuff to eat for me.
