Guest guest
Patty, I hope that this medication increase is what will help you. I'm surprised, though, that you haven't been given anything for BT. Or did I miss something while I was gone? Did you talk to her about a breakthrough med? With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
She asked me what I had been on before but wanted to try the increase of oxycontin first. She did say that I could experiment a little with it for instance take the 80 in the morning and if it only lasts to maybe 2pm to just take 40mg and then 8hrs later take another 40mg but I don't see why I couldn't just take 40mg every 6hours. What do you think? Patty __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Patty, Any variance from what your doctor suggested would need to be reviewed with her, I really am not qualified to consult on dosage deviations. But, I would assume that the medication's designed for 8 hour dosing, and any deviation from that would not give you optimal results. If it stops working after 6 hours, that indicates that the dosage isn't strong enough....that's where a BT med comes into play. Since it isn't formulated to be taken every 6 hours, doing so could result in an accidental overdosage. You really need to discuss this idea with your doctor, dear. I'd hate to see you do the wrong thing, and I'd also hate for you to lose the trust of your doctor by taking it more often than prescribed, even though that total dosage would be less than two doses of 80 every 8 hours. It's when we start devising our own dosing and changing the formula that doctor's start to distrust what we're doing, and ultimately label us as " drug seekers " . Please don't put yourself into the position where you have to defensively try to justify what you're doing. It sounds as though she's very willing to work out the best solution for you, and willing to increase your dosages as needed. That type of relationship and trust is very important between a doctor and patient, so you need to do all you can to honor it and keep these doors of communication open. Communication with your doctor is the best solution, and I'm sure she'll help you work out a regimen that is most suitable for you and that will allow you to function better. Guest guest
> > This is a late response because we have been out of town, but I read about the oxy dosing you were discussing. My son was taking the 80 mg dose every 12 hours and then needed to add 20 mg at the same time to give him 100 mg coverage for 12 hours. He was told NEVER to break up the time released oxys because it would give him the entire dose at once if the seal was broken. She gave him Vicoden for breakthrough, and stressed to him that he couldn't breakup the 12 hour pill. I hope you haven't heard this too many times, I am just catching up on mail. I also hope you are feeling better and it has been worked out.
Guest guest
, I was already on 40mg and she just told me to double up so that I was taking 2 40mg in the morning and 2 40mg at night. Just so that I could get use to the dosing she suggested I take 1 40mg after 8 hrs of taking the 80mg if I was still having pain and 8hrs later take another 40mg until I could work my self up to taking 2 40mg in the morning and 2 40mg at night. I am due a refill and will get the 80mg tablets next. She was just trying to see if the dose change would work. I didn't mean that I was cutting the pills in half. sorry about the confusion although I appreciate your response and concern. Patty
