SCD is not a low carb diet and you should be careful to include " legal "

carbs as you go. We never had a problem with ketosis. We ate honey, squash,

carrots, dilute apple cider, very ripe bananas, etc. for carbs in the

beginning.

Does SCD put the body in a state of ketosis like Atkins? I am scared of

this. Any info would be appreciated?

Not as long as you're eating a good amount of fruits and vegetables. You have a

potential problem if you're eating mostly animal products, but no worries if you

balance that with the carbs from lots of tolerated veggies and fruit.

Hummm.. I'm worried too now, there are barely any fruits that I can

tolerate. I try to have frozen blueberries/strawberries once in a

while, but I cannot tolerate any sugars. I pass out shortly after

having any (On couch, not just randomly, but I do need to lie down).

Tests I had before showed no diabetes, but from my experience with

doctors, it surely doesn't mean I have no issues that way.

Before I realized I had gluten problem, I felt dead most of the time

and I used to live off of Pepsi and other sugars for years, and I

mean 2-4 liters a day in teh last years before I cut out everything.

Did I develop an " intolerance " to carbs?

Thanks for any advices or suggestions, I really wish I understood my

current stat better. I'm finally feeling better after so may years

and I wish i could regain some more energy for day-to-day life again

Is there any fruit juice you tolerate? A drink of juice with your protein is

enough to prevent ketones.

Beyond that, you need some serious intervention!!! Are you unable to find a

good practitioner to help you figure out the passing out?

No, there's no way to find a family doctor down here.. I could

probably walk in to the clinic and get tested for glucose problems,

but I wish to understand more myself before I go in.. My candida

problems are probably back.. :(

I hate the Drs down here, pill pushers, all of them it seems. For

example, I went in to the hospital clinic the other day, for a

plantar wart, just to test out the place as I just moved down

here. I was recommended treatment that would not be covered by

insurance, and was the only treatment, for a little tiny plantar

wart. I went to the pharmacy for alternatives, and she just shook

her head, and pointed me to the over-the-counter remedies that work

perfectly fine.

I'm not too crazy about doctors to begin with, so I find it hard to

go see one without knowing all I can before.

Dear Alison, I'm fairly new to SCD, but there are plenty of foods on the diet

that can help you avoid ketosis -- fruits, honey, vegetables, yogurt. To avoid

ketosis, just make sure you get enough of the allowable " legal " carb sources.

It's a great, healthy diet.

Thanks,
