Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Isn't it strange that what works for one person doesn't for another? I am using the percocet for pain, and it along with valium works for my pain. I get spasms in my stomach that cause extreme pain, only for ten to 15 minutes and then it stops for a while. That is why I take the valium, because it seems to relax the spasms. When I have to go to the ER because the pain is out of control, it is just the opposite for me. I had always heard that morphine was 'heavy duty' but it just didn't seem to work for me. So we went back to Demerol and that seemed to work better, although it didn't do anything for the pain until I had enough that I couldn't keep my eyes open. It got to the point that my best medicine friend turned out to be benedryl, since that would knock me out and cause me to sleep. I had to switch doctors a year ago, and he is always wanting to have me try different medicines for pain control. Right now, to him, percocet seems appropriate. I used to be on duragesic patches, but it happened that I ran out and couldn't afford to refill the prescription. The withdrawal was terrible, so once I made it through that, I never filled the script because I didn't want to go through that again. I have learned to tolerate the pain, which is very difficult. I think I would rather tolerate this pain than to add to it because of withdrawal symptoms. To Tum Tum, Where do you live that you can buy codeine over the counter? I have a bottle of it but it doesn't work for the pain so thats why I do not take it. I have darvocet that I stick too and then percocet for the heavy duty pain, but when in the ER or hospital.....morphine is what I am given. I also suffer with SOD and it hasn't affected that at all. I have tried demerol in the ER but that does nothing for me. I say use what works for you. Sandy in Ca > > _____
Guest guest
You know Bob.....you may want to talk to the ER Dr about giving you Morphine...it has been shown to cause the duct of the pancreas to spasm...I can't take it because it makes my pain worse..something to think about anyway......I hope this finds you and yours well......Mark To Tum > > > Tum, > Where do you live that you can buy codeine over the counter? Guest guest
Hi Mark, Yes, I know that. A while back, I spent the better part of 6 months in the hospital, pancreatitus nearly took my life. My pancreas was so swollen that they couldn't get a scope down, it was pushing up on my lungs causing me to pant and not get enough air.. my heart rate was up over 300 bpm. During that time in the hospital, they went back and forth between Morphine and Demerol. They wanted me off the demerol because of its' adverse effects, but morphine was not helping the pain Re: To Tum You know Bob.....you may want to talk to the ER Dr about giving you Morphine...it has been shown to cause the duct of the pancreas to spasm...I can't take it because it makes my pain worse..something to think about anyway......I hope this finds you and yours well......Mark To Tum > > > Tum, > Where do you live that you can buy codeine over the counter? Guest guest
Hi, I attached the story, it is on the group website. A lot of similarities with diagnosis problems. My pancreatitus appears to be caused by my genes. My body produces too many triglycerides which over time cause me to get pancreatitus. I've had 3 severe attacks, the last one almost killing me. They brought me around long enough to ask for phone numbers of anyone I might want to see 1 last time, and that they threw in the towel and there was nothing more that they could do. Pretty scary stuff. I, too, found the group by luck, actually. It has been a Godsend. I signed up as a member of another group, and I think that it was Karyn, who happened along one of my posts in that group that led me to this one. On many occasions, this group has answered questions to which the answers eluded the doctors!
