Guest guest
Personally I believe these acid reducers (proton pumps)etc. are just another one of the " multitudes " of the drug companies drugs for a problem that does not really exist! If you want to reduce acid, change your diet, don't overeat, watch what foods, or stress, is giving you the pain......and try vinegar, aloe vera juice or a big glass of water! I have Barretts esophagus from refluxing bile not acid, but I know that they(acid reducers can cause polyps (and did to my friend)....I believe they are dangerous, but if u listen to the adds everyone should be on them. For occasinal heartburn take Famotidine, only when needed & quit making the drug companies rich. Just my opinion, but I try not to take anything that stays in the body for so long & masks other symptoms. Every pill has a side effect & the less you are on the better. Just my opinion..... in ton, S.C.
Guest guest
, I second that emotion! I just don't have a grasp on WHY people w/ panc. need to take them. is taking Lipram, I think. That is it, other then the protonix. Does anyone have an answer for why they prescribe acid reducers.... has never had acid reflux... As for our baby girl...we are taking her to an alternative medicine practitioner. > > Personally I believe these acid reducers (proton pumps)etc. are just > another one of the " multitudes " of the drug companies drugs for a > problem that does not really exist! Guest guest
I don't take them either although 1 specialist I went to for a 2nd opinion said to take them. When I said that I didn't have acid reflux and asked why should I medicate for something I don't have, his answer was because all my patients that have CP and take enzyme supplements take acid reducing pills. That didn't seem like a good enough answer to me so I refused them, but for some people I hear they work great. I was also told that by taking them (acid reducers) along with the enzyme supplements it reduces the acid that is in your stomach naturally and doesn't eat away more of the enzyme supplements before they can get where they are going. Hope that made sense. Just goes to show that even though we all share the same disease, we don't all have to follow the same medicine protocol. But I say if it helps you then take it. Guest guest
As far as changing your diet to relieve Acid...that may work for some people...but if I don't take my Prevacid and I drink water.....it tears me up.....Forget about drinking juice or have ketchup or soysauce......so maybe for some that as you said just occasional heartburn...they should try something else.....but for me who gets heartburn everyday.....I need the meds...I hope this finds you and yours well........Mark Re: Re Acid reducers > > > , I second that emotion! Guest guest
, If is taking Lipram, I personally see NO reason why he should need an acid reducer, either! The enteric coating on Lipram allows the enzyme to effectively pass through the stomach without activating, and not activate until reaching the intestines. I have taken Lipram for two years, and was never instructed to use an acid reducer with that type of enzyme. At the time, this enzyme was very effective for me, when the proper dosage was realized. The acid reducers are normally prescribed for patients who are taking pancreatic enzymes that do NOT have an enteric coating, for the reasons I stated earlier in my post to .
