Guest guest
To Heidi & others......the point I am trying to make is that as you said Heidi, we all have very different bodies & problems, but just be careful & read the side effects re the 24 hour reducers. Many drugs have been suggested to patients like Celebrex, the statins, Propulsid & on & on, only later to be taken off the market. These doctors know very little re how the drugs work & even less about nutrition. And more people die of drug side effects than practically anything else!!! I agree you should do your own research & then decide on any drug, all drugs do & eventually will have side effects & I've never heard of any good ones! My friend was on the original acid reducer(which name escapes me) & ended up with polyps in her esophagus, which I warned her could happen (it's right there on the contraindications)....sometimes we have to take a pill & sometimes we don't, but just don't forget these drugs are a big $$$$$$ making deal! Not everything new is necessarily better. As far as the Viokase (I was on it for years) and was never advised to take anything with it & my vitamin supplements by Solgar, cheaper & a tablet like Viokase, also does not require an acid reducer. I am now on Lipram only because my coverage still pays for it, but come May when I am on Medicare, and Lipram is about $1.00 a pill & I see no difference between it & Solgar which is about $12.95 for 100, I may choose the Solgar. They also do not have all the fillers that Lipram has!! I'm sorry to have to say this but I firmly believe that many of our doctors give these designer drugs out for a kickback ( the ones that never have a generic).......what I heard u stating is that everyone on pancreatic enzymes needs an acid-reducer & that is just not true. So forgive me if that is not what you said, but many on this board look to you for their only opinion which can be dangerous. We all need to question the use of expensive drugs & especially the new ones. I have a husband with congestive heart failure, hereditary high lipids & a recent new mitral valve....We are both convinced that some of the drugs he was on caused the damaged valve & there is compelling evidence to show this. Often the drugs side effects are worse than the very thing you are treating. So to all of you, don't be to quick to pop every pill the doctors want to put you on, do your own research first and also check the natural ways to help yourself. I strongly rec. 2 books that anyone with pancreatitis or any other disease should have in their library: Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements by Murrray, N.D. and Prescription for Nutritional Healing, by F. Balch, M.D. & Phyllis Balch, C.N.C. and also a Merck's ....for $40.00 or so, they have a wealth of information. Remember people, everyone is in business for the money so don't believe everything the doctors tell you! I have dealt with chronic illness since 1978 & this unfortunately, is what I have learned. Peace & best wishes to all of you. Sincerely Glentzes
Guest guest
Just to get in on this topic, I have been taking Creon for my enzymes and was originally prescribed something for acid reduction (I forget the name of it right now-Senior Moments come more frequently now). Anyway, due to the cost of all of my medications, I opted to not fill the acid-reducing drug and see if I can get along without it. Well, I have never had a bout of acidity ever since my Whipple and when I brought this up to my doctor he said that it was probably due to my losing the majority of my stomach in the Whipple and what I haev left isn't enough to over produce stomach acids. Needless to say, I wondered why he prescribed the acid reducer in the 1st place and told him so. He said he did it for a precaution, just in case I did have probelms of this nature. I agree with all who say that having enteric and non-enteric capsules/pills make a tremendous amount of difference whenever anacids are prescribed. However, it is encombant upon all of us to do the necessery research before putting anythin in our bodies for we are the final arbitor as to whenther something is right for us individually. I hope all are doing well today and hope this doesn;t upset anyone sensibilities.
