Margaret:

This is definitely something new because I didn't have to pay a deposit.

That is ridiculous. I would call your insurance company and see what they

have to say.

This sounds awfully strange if you already have authorization by letter or an

approval number from your insurance company. Anyone else hear this? Do they

take credit cards?

Hey everybody -

Just got a phone call from Durham anesthesia. They

now require a deposit of $910 due before the day of

surgery. Cash, certified check or Visa/Mastercard.

I am going to find a way - just don't know how yet.

All of these deposits plus traveling expenses are

killing me!

They said that insurance companies have been refusing

payment even after pre-approving. So it doesn't

matter what ins you have - they now require a deposit.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Margaret,

You are kidding me right? Do not kid me..

I also got a phone call today and they left a message for me to call

them back. I will not be able to put a deposit down if they require one.

I will have to cancel. It took alot to get my $1255.00 together. There

is no way that I can do another $910.00.

I will let you know tomorrow what I find out.

Thanks,

inGA

Carla,

This is in GA. We are going to have surgery on the same day!

Have you heard of anyone else having the surgery that day?

What time is yours scheduled? They did not tell me a time yet. I emailed

Barbara but she has not returned my email with a time. I may call

tomorrow and get time..

Back to the INSURANCE/ANESTHESIA DEPOSIT??

Those that are post-op--has your insurance screwed them of money big

time or what? I understand that they are on my list of in-network so

they agree to the money that is negotiated, right? So, has anyone's

insurance not paid??

What is up with this???

I am just about to have a fit! I thought I had all this worked out..

There is no way that I can come up with $910.00 more and still eat and

give my kids something for Christmas.. Hell, I can not do it..////

Hey

Havent heard if we would be getting anyone else with our date. This other

mess with Durham Anesthia will surely cut some people out, and who has an

extra $2165 ( Clinic $255 + Surgery Deposit $1000. + Durham Anesthesia $910.

) that just happens to be laying around!!. I have a message to call them

today, but since they are a preferred provider and are under contract with my

insurance company ( Doctors Health Plan ) we are all going to have a talk

today about this. :) I tell you one something, I would be willing to bet

that Durham Anesthesia doesnt do this to any other patients except our group.

Discrimination. Do you think they tell other patients this that need

anesthesia??

Sorry, I had to vent. This is ridiculous.

I am going to check into going to the Center.

Would they ask for the same " deposit " ? Doesn't sound

like a " deposit " to me - sounds like payment in full

and then get re-imbursed by insurance. I am

pre-certified by Aetna for 90% coverage. Don't know

how I can come up with $910 in 3 weeks. Don't know if

Aetna will cover the Center. I have a call into

my 401K plan at work to see about borrowing.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi Trudy

Thanks for the advice and the number. I intend to fight this little snag,

since they are in my network and they are under contract with the insurance

company not to do this little trick with the insurance company. Hope you are

doing well since your surgery and I do always enjoy your posts!

Take care and thanks so much

Carla, dear. Take a breath. Deep breath. Let's not jump on the

descrimination bandwagon without a lot more information. The sheer volume of

patients presented to the anesthesia department for this procedure, because

Dr. R's business is growing so significantly, means that if insurance

companies are reneging, their possible losses are going to be huge. I know

it's hard to come up with the money, but their reasons may be very valid.

I've seen what insurers do with these bills, and the docs and

nurse-anesthetists are left holding an empty bag. They're saying, let me get

paid for the work I do, and if your company acts right, you'll get it back.

If they don't, we can not be the ones to suffer.

Hope that this makes sense to you and helps you see another perspective.

Fondly, and understanding the stress, PhillyJude
