Guest guest
Hello, I have an 8 1/2 year old son who has been on a GF/CF diet for 2 years. He is also on a DAN! protocol for gut healing. I am just starting the SCD & am concerned about salicylates. My son can go off from eating 1 unpeeled apple a day. It appears that many of the allowed foods (honey, berries) are very high in salicylates and I'm wondering how I will balance the diet with dairy free and low salicylates (not to mention getting him to eat the new foods). Does anyone have experience with this? Does the salicyclate intolerance get better or shall I just plan to modify the diet throughout each stage? Thanks so much for your assistance. You may speed this up by avoiding foods that you know he reacts to or at least preparing them differently. For example. Most of the salicylates are found closest to the skin of apples. Peeling it once will remove a large portion of the problematic compounds (peeling off a second layer removes even more). Please also note that we generally suggest to start with the intro diet and gradually add in peeled and cooked fruits and veggies. http://pecanbread.com/new/begindiet1.html Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
Guest guest
My son has this same problem. We were using chewable No-Fenol with good results, but switched to the powder to be SCD compliant. After switching I read here that the Houston enzymes that were OK on SCD didn't work as well. I wonder if that's why his stimming is through the roof?
