Guest guest
yesterday I put the water in the yogourmet machine and turned it on for 5 hours (no yogurt). I tested the temperature and it was only 86 degrees. I set up my salton machine (with yogurt) yesterday and this morning tested the temperature and it was 130 degrees. So, my conclusion is that for the last almost 2 years the yogurt I've been making has not been good. I didn't test temperatures while cooking it before. this is very sad and if anyone comes up with a solution please post it. thanks. linda, mom to broderick, asd, scd
Guest guest
Buy a dehydrator. Then try using water instead of goat milk and adjust the temperature accordingly. If the temperature is too high then set the thermostat for a lower temperature until you get the desired temperature. Use glass canning jars for the goat milk. I am only familiar with Excalibur-Tray-Dehydrator. I did check on Amazon for cheaper brands. It would be great if list members would share their experience with more economical brands. http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/Dehydrators-37-cat.htm http://www.amazon.com/Excalibur-Tray-Dehydrator-Dehydrater-Excaliber/dp/B000HWS5\ DU/ref=sr_1_14/102-0138877-1160149?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1178888371&sr=8-14 Please give me feedback if you use this dehydrator or other brands: http://www.amazon.com/Nesco-American-Harvest-FD-75PR-Dehydrator/dp/B000FFVJ3C/re\ f=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-0138877-1160149?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1178888371&sr=8-1 Please do try the other tips if you have economic problems. A steel rack might be the answer for many of you. You might try ebay for used dehydrators. Please do not let money stop you from making the yogurt. The SCD goat yogurt is worth a million dollars.....we have had many mothers who claim that it brought amazing healing for their child. If your child was GFCF prior to SCD, then please wait a few months before starting the yogurt and follow the directions in the yogurt section of www.pecanbread.com Mimi > yesterday I put the water in the yogourmet machine and turned it on > for 5 hours (no yogurt). Guest guest
you will find that the temperature of the yogurt/water will vary depending on how warm the room is, you may have got a cold time of day for your test if you eat it yourself you should have an idea of what is satisfactory thermostats in electrical appliances are not very good and follow the room temperature signficantly > > yesterday I put the water in the yogourmet machine and turned it on > for 5 hours (no yogurt). Guest guest
I think it would encourage everyone if people who are certain that the yogurt has been beneficial for them or their children would post what method (which machine) they have used for making the yogurt. Maybe temperature variances are less of a problem than we think. , mom to
Guest guest
We use the Yogurtmate yogurt machine, and the Progurt starter with organic cow milk. We started with goat milk at first, but our son can handle cow or goat milk and cheese with no difference in the two, and cow dairy is always less expensive. We have seen no negative changes using either cow or goat...only good progress. Guest guest
it would be useful to see what pratical experience people had with temeprature ranges and dwell times on the temperatures and what was felt gave the best yogurts from a gut point of view > > I think it would encourage everyone if people who are certain that the > yogurt has been beneficial for them or their children would post what > method (which machine) they have used for making the yogurt.
