Guest guest
I too received a call yesterday afternoon. I gave them my CC# and they won't charge it until the week before my surgery (1/10/01). I called my contact person at BCBS, and she said that although it's not standard practice for a Dr./clinic to ask for a deposit, that it does happen because of how long it can take to process the claim. This can be particularly true for out of state patients (which I am, I live in Wisconsin). Keep records of what you paid and when. She also suggested after surgery that I write a letter to BCBS and let them know how much I paid and when and for what - and explain that this is a financial hardship having this " out of pocket " money floating around. That will help expedite the process. Keep in mind that this is information for WISCONSIN... it may not apply to wherever you live. I don't post very often, but I do read the digest version faithfully. I wish all of you the very best on your successes, and my hugs/prayers to you when you're feeling a bit down. All of you are such great resources of information. It's very easy to read about all the positives, but I also learn so much from hearing about the problems you run into. Back in May I contacted a local WLS/ Bariatric Surgeon. (He does the open RNY). He in turn made arrangements to come and visit Dr. R a few weeks ago. I'm waiting to hear back from this Dr. with his impressions, etc. I did give him LT's website, and asked him some specific questions about some of the things she posted there. I'll post something as soon as I hear from him. As has been posted a zillion times here, everyone should do ALOT of research both positive and negative about this. This is a " forever " change. I've always been a believer that you can find people to say/believe whatever you want if you look long and hard enough. I have had several email contacts with this surgeon. He was not recommended to me by anyone, I sought him out. Who knows - maybe I've just broken some ground to having the MGB or Lap RNY performed in Wisconsin. I believe there are only about 7-8 people from WI who have had the MGB. Good luck to all of you, and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
