Hi Debz,

My goodness...I cannot believe what you are going through with

this guy. I am so sorry that you are feeling so mentally and

physically unwell. He seems to be very callous in the way he is

communicating with you.

I will try to make some sense out of what he told you but be

aware that this is just speculation and I could be really off the

mark. It is hard to know exactly what this guy is thinking.......

But my interpretation of the morphine statement is that he does

not believe that it is visceral pain...that is, pain originating from

an organ. Some physicians believe that narcotics only work on

visceral pain and that pain from nerves or other causes do not

respond well to these types of pain relievers. However I have

recently read that this supposition is coming under question -

that nerve pain does respond to narcotics but just needs higher

dosages (I think that was the conclusion but do not hold me to

it). But........if this is what he is thinking...this does not mean that

your pancreas is not the source of the nerve pain. My pain doctor

explained this relationship to me very clearly when she was

endorsing trigger point injections and if you would like I can go

into more detail. Just ask.

As far as how you are describing your worsening pain....that is

very typical of biliary / pancreas pain. That is, pain after eating,

drinking and especially laying down at night are all textbook

symptoms of pancreas / biliary pain.

The thing now is to not worry too much about what he will say but

to get this pain under control in the immediate future so you can

be firm and clear headed when you meet with this guy. Hopefully

you can come up with some options to control this that will make

life a little more easier for you.

Boy.....what you have been through with this guy! Makes me want

to cry for you.

Laurie

I need help with that so you think hes saying..........i dont have

viseral pain, but neuropathic pain??

When I was weeks in hospital they had me on PCA Fentnyal ,,,,,,,,

huge doses and it helped . The most help I got was when they put an

Epidural in, initally they put in in wrong place and my pain hit a

10 after a laparotomy but then when they replaced it I got better in

5 days after being there 5 weeks they also put feeding tubes both

times and I recoverd both times

I know that Morhine does help as when I am in sever pain It helps it

sedates me and i still have pain but maybe that means it not so

effective??

My pain doctor

I m gettign it under control but I need mor ehlep on what to ask him

eg about the tests he did results and how he plans to help me,????

Morphine is the only thing along with clonidine and nortryptiline

that helsp me and I would hate to lose that

Is Fenatnyl an equivalent? maybe a pact? I have also felt he may

have tried ketamine on me and maybe that helped...... I knwo that

when i was in there and in severe pain, his other tests which were

preumably morphine etc did nothing... but i had a pain score of 7 so

that may show why my pain level only dropped one pointd from 7 to 6
