Guest guest
Hi! I'm new to the board. We have been doing gfcf for about 4 months now, but am learning more about SCD. It seems like a more nutritious diet than gfcf, and my understanding is that SCD actually heals the gut, whereas just doing gfcf doesn't? My question is: If your child does not have diarrhea or constipation issues, is it necessary to still start with the " Stage One " limited diet? If I were to do this, what would I be looking for? (She doesn't have digestive issues except when she has gluten- reflux and stomachache.) Thanks so much for your help! Beth
Guest guest
Yes, you still need to begin with the intro diet, and then progress slowly with the introduction of new foods...giving the more easily digested ones at first, and working through to the more difficult ones. All fruit and vegetables should be pealed, seeded, and well cooked for several months to come. You want to begin with the intro diet because it clears the decks so to speak for the optimal healing to take place. You may not see any noticeable changes, but that doesn't mean healing is not taking place. Signs of yeast or bacterial die off could be almost anything from oddly colored or textured stools to lethargy to fever or even vomitting to rashes to irritability to returned undesirable behavior or just about anything else that is a negative thing that she either has never had happen before or has returned. I didn't think my son had any major signs to need SCD, but I knew that we should try it anyway. It has been the launching point for so much progress in his recovery. We have had him SCD for one year now, and he is pretty close to a recovery from ASD. Of course, I can't know if it will take him another year, just a couple of months, somewhere in between, or even longer. I am certain, however, that he will make a full recovery with the progress we've seen in the past year...especially the past ten months since we added in the biomedical intervention aspect. Welcome to the group, and ask anyway questions you need to. We're here to help you and your daughter. Meleah Hi to everyone and question. Hi! I'm new to the board. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Beth, << My question is: If your child does not have diarrhea or constipation > issues, is it necessary to still start with the " Stage One " limited > diet? If I were to do this, what would I be looking for? (She doesn't have digestive issues except when she has gluten- reflux and stomachache.) >> It isn't absolutely necessary to start with the intro diet but we highly recommend it. It works twofold: 1.) it starves out harmful microbes while feeding the body the easiest to digest foods and 2.) sets up a baseline to which you add foods in a increasing order of complexity. In other words after the intro you start adding the next easiest to digest foods and gradually work up to the hardest to digest SCD legal foods. Since your daughter doesn't have diarhhea or constipation she may be able to move to the harder to digest foods quite quickly.
