Guest guest
Hello, I started SCD in March/07. I'm not sure when I joined this group (was " recently " ) & I have learned alot, however, I work full-time plus am taking a course full-time, not leaving me alot of time & so I have remained a " silent " participant. With all the emails I've become overwhelmed and so very confused & am having problems with the diet - I can't get D under control. I've read BTVC twice & skimmed several times. I've not had replies from contacting Nutritionists and Counsellors listed. I've started the intro diet 2 or 3 times now & although I'm an awful cook & not overly fond of what's in it I'm about to try one last time. I have a few questions before I do though: When can/should I start eating the homemade yogurt? When can I eat things like homemade: mayo, salad dressing, etc? Is BBQ considered same as broiling? Can I eat ANY kind of legal meat after the intro diet? How long until you know you're reacting to a food? (I seem to have to " go " after 2 bites of ANYTHING I put in my mouth) Thanking you in advance for ANY help you can give me! Me! ) UC 15 years & sick of being sick! Guest guest
There are people who have to alter this diet to suit them in order to be successful. Bear in mind it is almost impossible for one way of eating to be the right way for everyone. SCD gives an excellent start but you must think critically for yourself. Start with the soup. Add in one food at a time. If you react to the food - do not add it again for a long time. For example: When we first started, ds (our most damaged family member) could not tolerate ANY beans at all for a few years, so we did not add them in. Nightshades (tomato, etc.) gave him d. It took a full year, maybe more, before we could add them back in successfully. Five years later and he still reacts to kiwi with d. So, he doesn't eat it. However, he is much healthier and has not had a viral infection that was bad enough to see a doc. for, for five years... before that, we used to have to go about every six weeks because he'd catch everything under the sun. I also, went on the diet in support of him (though I thought I had no issues). Well, my health improved so much that there are many food I will never go back to eating even though I now consider myself to be fully healed. So, you have to put it all in perspective and work the diet so that it works for you. hth Kind regards, KimS SCD 2003-2004 gluten intolerant family > > Hello, > I started SCD in March/07. Guest guest
Thank you - I am trying to alter it but because I don't seem to have a " good " day, I don't know what I react to. I think I may be reacting to the chicken soup too. It's frustrating & I'm extremely undernurished right now. I ate scrambled eggs for breakfast & lunch today & so far so good! I will prevail!! Two things helped 1. - using organic free range chickens and 2. blending the carrots into the broth to make a thick cream- like soup. Mostly I would eat the chicken, and carrots seperately and save the broth for later. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Some people do react to chicken. I have read at least one abstract that shows where a child was failing to thrive due to chicken. Try using something else for the broth. Do you feel better with beef? Do you feel better with another type of meat? Do you feel better with no meat? There are people who do not have the enzymes to break meat down properly. This is viewed as a rare occurrence in conventional medicine... However, with the number of people I have spoken to who say that they are vegetarian because meat makes them feel sick, I have to wonder how rare it really is. Do not give up. Do think critically. If I don't answer a question, it is because I didn't see it. Please feel free to e-mail me.
