Guest guest
Hi, I have had my son on SCD for several months and he is doing very well, but recently we were at the doctors and he has lost 7 lbs. The doctor wants me to increase his calories, but he is still in level 3, he can't seem to tolerate nuts yet. I can't make him breads or cakes without a situation that he eliminates small pieces in his poops. Is this ok? If not, I'm not sure how to give him bread or cracker type food without increasing his already high fat content ie, cheese etc...? Any suggestions? He currently eats yogurt, applesauce and watered down grapejuice for breakfast; lunch tuna and mayo, squash, applesauce, 2 bananas; dinner 1/2 to one can salmon with an egg or two to make a pattie, green beans, squash or pumkin. He drinks a fair bit of 1/2 water grape juice per day. Thanks in advance for your help, Phyllis

Guest guest
Actually I use coconut oil regularly for his food. I had read that it is a medium chain fat and that one wouldn't gain weight with it. Hmmm? I wonder. Guest guest
yes i know some people do use it for weight loss, because it gives you a feeling of satiation if you take it before meals, and then you eat less. but that doesn't apply to us SCDers, because we don't eat any fluff that we need to cut out. however, my daughter and i did gain weight. maybe that's because we take it in therapeutic doses, in addition to cooking with it. i take 1T three times a day, and i give my daughter 1/2 tsp 3 times a day. silvia > Actually I use coconut oil regularly for his food. Guest guest
Thank you for clarifying this for me Silvia. I wasn't thinking of giving it in that way. I'll have to give it a try and see how it works for him.
