Guest guest
Does anybody know about long term conditions after having the TP/ICT? Is there any complications know of? Can our body live a full life with no pancreas and do the islet ever die in the liver? I am just kinda worried about this because people seem to not really know long term conditons of having this procedure. Thanks St. Louis, MO ERIN --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
Actually , there is no long term difinitive study to determine how people will be lets say 25 years post op. It is a relatively new procedure. However, the current data does state that long term insulin dependancy is minimal at best. I am not a diabetic. I say that I am just to be on the safe side. I check my sugar frequently and take insulin only when I eat a very large starchy meal, like pasta, or too much ice cream..LOL. Even that is a very small amount of insulin. Yesterday I had a cheese burger and was absolutely fine, no problems with my blood sugar at all. I do have to take enzymes with every meal or snack and I also take a laxative, miralax every evening. The incisional hernia I have is a small complication. Had I not had so many surgeries in one years time, my abs would not have gotten so weak. I did have an internal stitch that did not dissolve and had to be removed, the hernia is in the same spot, that probably led to the tearing of the weak tissue and muscle. Any kind of ab surgery has a risk of herniation. I dont know when your classes beging, but just from my experience and from what Darren has told me; you should be feeling pretty good by september. I would think a few weeks at home with Mom post op might be a good idea until you have regained some strength. By the 4th of July I think you will feel better then you have in years, you will still be weak and maybe a littl sore, but you will feel so much better.
