Guest guest
I just started the scd diet, and noticed as I was looking at the cheddar cheeses, most of them are made with milk! Does it matter which kind of cheese I buy?? I wasn't looking at the processed cheese....
Guest guest
Some cheeses are SCD legal and some are not. You may make a search in BTVC or in the website below: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_a-c.htm Most children with ASD do better with goat cheese; the same is true for folks with dairy allergy. We recommend a waiting period of a few months before introducing cheese for children who had done GFCF prior to SCD. Guest guest
Welcome to the group copadaddy, << I just started the scd diet, and noticed as I was looking at the > cheddar cheeses, most of them are made with milk! Does it matter which > kind of cheese I buy?? I wasn't looking at the processed cheese..>> The legal cheeses are listed in " Breaking the Vicious Cycle (BTVC) " 10th edition page 180 in the Appendix. Elaine explained about cheese there and lists them under " Cheeses Permitted " and " Cheeses not permitted " . Under the " cheeses Permitted " column the cheeses in italics are the best to start with. If you come across a cheese that isn't on the list you can check the legal/illegal list at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_a-c.htm or ask about it here. Guest guest
Hi eguadron684, << When can you introduce cheese if you weren't C free?>> If you are still suffering from constipation you may want to wait a while. It does depend on the state of current symptoms and what you are now eating. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs mom of and

It is in the appendix page 180 (10th edition), titled " Cheeses " . Guest guest
How do I know if the cheese has been processed? Sometimes the processed cheese is sold in blocks so its hard to tell. Guest guest
Hi copadaddy, << How do I know if the cheese has been processed? Sometimes the processed cheese is sold in blocks so its hard to tell. >> If you stick to the cheeses in the book you should be fine. Don't use processed cheese slices, pregrated cheeses, light (lite) cheeses or reduced fat cheeses. For example Velveeta comes in a block and calls it self a " cheese product " not cheese. Mozzarella is a cheese but it is a soft unripened cheese with alot of lactose - it is illegal. If you find plain cheddar at the store it should be fine. If still unsure, tell us what it is and the ingredients. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs mom of an
Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, I bought the sargento cheese and I can tell that its natural. Any idea of where to buy the farmer's cheese? I tried Nugget market, and they do not have it. Is it pretty hard stuff to find? Thanks Sheila Trenholm wrote: Hi copadaddy, << How do I know if the cheese has been processed? Guest guest
The good bacteria eat up the lactose. Same idea as the yogurt. Mimi > Can someone explain the science behind why cheese is legal? > >
