Guest guest
Hi List, Please do not let this situation stop you from making the yogurt. Buy canning jars and make 10 quarts of yogurt in your oven with a 60 watt lightbulb instead of using your yogurt maker until we run lab tests. That supply should last you for a long time and you will be able to use your oven on the other days. Or you might use the tips to lower the temperature of the yogurt maker provided by our clever list members. I think that the directions for making yogurt in the oven are in BTVC. The yogurt has incredible powers to heal your child! Do not stop the yogurt making. Mimi
Guest guest
I needed a 100watt bulb in my oven, to keep a good constant temp. > > Hi List, > > Please do not let this situation stop you from making the yogurt. Guest guest
Thank you for letting us know. Everyone should first test by heating water. Guest guest
I am sorry to hear that everyone is having a tough time with the yogurt. On a metal rack on the counter, my Donvier yogurt maker had the yogurt temperature between 100 and 110, this was with 6 hours remaing for the batch. I know that buying new equipment is expensive and my little machine makes very small batches, so it is not a practical machine for most people. I have had great success making yogurt in the oven. I use an oven thermometer to keep an eye on the temp. I used duct tape to tape down the light switch to the oven, and I taped a rolled up kitchen towel in the oven door to keep the door open. I also put a sign on the oven clearly telling my DS18 to leave it alone. Again, this doesn't help anyone with small children, but my DD6 does leave the oven alone. I use the stove timer to check on the yogurt every 4 hours. This helps remind me to check it and it helps me to leave it alone. I use a 60 watt bulb, but if you make really big batches I can see how a stronger light buld would be needed.
