Guest guest
Has anyone out there dealt with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan or Blue Cross Blue Shield for Federal Employees? If so, how difficult was it to get pre approved? Also, is there anyone out there that had preexisting hernias and had the surgery? If so, when did you get the hernias repaired? Guest guest
I had federal bcbs. They no longer pre-approve. It is covered but you just have to go on faith that they will pay..because they will. Your contract specifically says they will not pay for weight loss medications or programs EXCEPT for gastric bypass surgery. I went to Durham and the admissions office at DRH got approval at that time (the only time they'll do it is on admitting) and they paid. Same story with my daughter...she went, they paid. Their policy is to no longer pre-approve. Federal was my secondary. MD bcbs is my primary and they pre-approved but still haven't paid a dime. Guest guest
Hi: I have dealt with BC BS Federal. They do not give pre-approvals any longer. However, in your benefit book it shows that weight loss surgery is approved if you meet the criteria. As long as your BMI is over 40 you should have no trouble meeting the criteria. I had my surgery on 9/25/00 and so far they have paid the anesthesia bill and Dr. Rutledge. I paid $149.00 of drs bill and $40.00 of the anesthesia. I had met my deductible all except $40.00. So I am just awaiting the hospital bill to be paid. That should be covered almost in full. From what I read the Federal is about one of the easiest. Also, it's paid through BC BS of NC so don't bother going through your local office. Pam Mc from land 296/

Guest guest
Hi! I waited for Open Season and chose Fed. BC/BS and no problem getting approved. I just had to prove I was morbidly obese and at 348, that wasn't a problem. -Ginny I. mgb: 3/1/00 348/241 _______________________________________________________ Tired of slow Internet?
