Guest guest
Dear Connie: The best way to get contacts is to use the email addresses on the web site (www.clos.net), or the ones which appear here when a post-op posts. Then write the post-op a personal email asking them to be a contact for you. You can ask them specific questions (including the ones you list below) or you can ask them to tell you about their experience or both. Many of us have a " blurb " that we have saved in Word or some other software which we can send out when we get a request. If you send a personal email, you will likely get each and every one to respond to you. If you post a message to the entire group, some folks may not see it because they get their messages in digest form and open only those emails which interest them. And people have a tendency to think that most probably someone else already answered you. So a personal note is the best way to get a maximum response. I am always pleased to be asked to be a contact and I always respond (except for once last week when the email I sat and wrote in response bounced back). My email address is florence@... Guest guest
Hi, Connie, here goes: I am Sperber Your email address : sms@... your date of operation: 11/09/00 and the preoperative weight 240, and your weight now 226. I have to ask you to tell me: What you think of Dr. Rutledge? I think Dr. R is an extremely intelligent, experienced surgeon who has a hell of a lot of heart and a seeming inexhaustible supply of energy. I was a little wary of the " moony mentality " but after having him respond to me for a number of phone calls and e-mails--and he has so many patients--I cannot speak highly enough of him. What did you think of Dr. Rutledge's staff? The personalities are all great, especially Barbara. The only problem is that the work load is so great that sometimes you have to make repeat requests. When you get through an talk with someone they all are very responsive and polite and nice. What did you think of your experience with the surgery, and What did you think of the hospital. I was at . The staff were the BEST. I remember them putting the mask on and then I remember being in the recovery room with someone saying " Breathe " (to get my O2 level up) and breaking a pill under my tongue because my blood pressure went real high. Later in my room I had a problem and they were there instantly. Really the very best and very professional. How much pain did you experience Right after I woke up and was in my room they gave me an oral medication. This was the first thing to hit my stomach. I experienced a pain that was so bad that I thought the surgery had come apart inside. Also, because of the pressure mechanism they put on your legs to keep you from getting blood clots, I couldn't move my legs--so I was trapped and this scared me. The nurses rushed in and release my legs and helped me up. The pain made my voice go quavery. They pulled up the recliner and gave me a shot of Demerol. After I woke up again, the excruciating pain was gone. There was a " catch " from time to time. I called Dr.R and had a long discussion and he assured me this was " normal " pain and not to worry about the surgery. It was not a leak. It was probably a " trapped nerve. " I stayed in Durham for about 6 more days and then went home. The incision points were not particularly painful although there was quite a bit of bruising. I do remember that the 6 days in Durham after my surgery were filled with a lot of sleep. I did not push to do anything and was very happy to sleep. I did go and see one movie. I got home on the 15th (Wednesday) and went back to work the following Monday. I have had no problem at work at all, but my work is sedentary. I sit and type for a living. / When did you go back to work, How much weight have you lost and would you do it again... I am not positive how much weight I have lost. It's been 17 days since my surgery and I've lost between 10 and 14 pounds. I started at around 240 (but I'm not sure because I think my scale was around 236) and my scale said 226 today. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. This is the first time I am not afraid that every year I will gain more weight until some immeasurable point in the future when I die from the complications of obesity. My biggest problem right now is I feel like I can eat a lot more than most of the post-ops and this makes me anxious. Also, some seem to have lost a lot more than I have. But I am definitely eating less than usual and will most certainly be losing weight. I would appreciate your input: This is a big step you have already took. I have yet to do so. So for myself I am interested in your story because it will help me with my decisions. Best of luck to you in your decision.
