Guest guest
Hi my name is ; First hospitilization with pancreatitis was last November (14 days). Then again this past January, and finally in hospital again for (15 days) in March. CAT Scans, Sonigrams, MRI's, differential this and that and so on. Last time in hospital it took 36 mg morphine to get me to sit still. Docs and nurses stood in awe as it took another 16 fifteen minutes later to keep me calmed. I was completly lucid the whole time and coulkd have re-installed Windows onmy computer if it were there. MY FEAR AS A RESULT OF MY MEETING WITH THE GASTOENTOROLIGST (sic).... They want to do an ERCP and cut the sphincter muscle from the common bile duct. Put me to sleep too. I would prefer to use meds and pain management. Is that rational, or is non-reversable surgery the answer? Thanks,

Guest guest
Dear : It sounds completely rational BUT be sure they have something to go on. I presume they have found a narrowed duct on MRI or something? If they are just telling you they are going to cut the bile duct and have no concrete evidence that it is the common bile duct that needs to be cut, be wary. They can't guess with this stuff. The only real way I know of is by ERCP to really see what is going on. I have had sphincterotomies and they have helped me for quite awhile. Sometimes a narrowed duct will narrow again so its not fool proof but the only way I know outside of taking the whole thing out which is not good either. Any questions feel free to ask.
