Guest guest
I put my daughter (3 1/2) on SCD about two weeks ago. I am seeing that a lot of kids on this forum are autistic. I would like to ask whether there is sort of a pre-autistic stage? Here are the reasons why I am asking: My daughter has been biting in the past for no reasons. I know that some foods make her behave more like the terrible 3's. She has also done the teeth grinding at night a lot. In addition, she suffers from night scares. She only slept 45 minutes for naps as a baby, never longer and it was always hard to just get her to sleep. is and was always alert, eyes open, always active. She is gluten sensitive. Genetic link excists too. Till we took her off milk she was never hungry. Never asked for food. No interest in any food whatsoever. She also only weighs 27 pounds at 3.1/2 and suffers from eczema. Too calm down she plays with my ears for a long time. Touching them over and over. On the other side she is very social, loving, and going to preschool is no problem. Guest guest
I am not a specialist and to be sure you should always seek a professional evaluation, but I have two teenage kids with autism. Your little sounds like she has a lot of food sensitivities, but absolutely nothing that you wrote sounds like autism. I have never heard of a " pre autistic " stage, but your daughter is too old anyway. By definition, autism will have reared its ugly head before 3 years of age. This diet was not designed for people with autism, but many who have autism have found it extremely helpful, my kids included. Incredible progress. Sometimes you find wonders when you come in the back door! Guest guest
I agree, if your daughter is social and communicating, it doesn't sound like she has autism. But for sure, some other sensitivities and worth a check up with a pediatrician for their opinion. lori choruby wrote: I am not a specialist and to be sure you should always seek a professional evaluation, but I have two teenage kids with autism. Guest guest
Hi, Our son does not have full blown Autism (for that we are grateful), but he does have Asperger's Syndrome which is an Autism Spectrum Disorder. They say he is a very high functioning autistic or has a dash of autism. There are different classifications in the Autism Spectrum including full blown Autism to a 'dash of autism'. We suspected something was wrong in kindergarten but didn't figure it out completely until first grade. He was very social when is was smaller but fell behind the other kids' social development so that when he reached 1st grade it was very apparent that something was wrong. We also have a history of gluten intolerance on both sides of the family as well as dairy intolerance. When he was smaller he snuggled with me excessively. He didn't go to bed with out snuggling until he was at least 4 and still wants us to lay down with him at 7. He grinds his teeth at night. He is very emotional. He has a hard time reading social cues and body language. He was getting explosive before we put him on the gf/cf diet and plan to start the SCD in 1 week. So, a child can have a dash of Autism with out having it full blown, like our child. Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this so not sure how to post. Sorry if you get this twice. We didn't find out that my son was on the Autism spectrum until he was 6 (1st grade). He's now 7. He was very social and loved other kids. He had no problem with eye contact unless he was very angry or emotional. He loved to snuggle, excessively. Rocked him to sleep until he was 4. Still wants us to snuggle with him. Had problems with him biting others some but we addressed that. Was obsessed with wheels going round and round. Started noticing some problematic behaviors around 3 and they increased as he got older. Suspected something was wrong in kindergarten but teacher said he's just a very energetic boy. First grade he had fallen behind the other kids social development by quite a bit and the school suggested that he has Asperger's Syndrome -- very highly functioning autistic / a dash of autism. His social development is impaired and he has problems with emotional outbursts and anger. We put him on gf/cf diet after we found out (around christmas) which has helped a lot. We also had to remove phenols from his diet (mostly colored fruit). He eats pear sauce and very ripe bananas and golden delicious apples. If he eats highly phenolic foods he gets very emotional and angry. That's why we are beginning the SCD diet in 1 week. We are hoping that as his gut heals he will be able to tolerate some more of the fruits. So, a person can be on the Autism Spectrum with out having severy Autism. There are different classifications along the Spectrum and I would say that between the age of 3 and 7 my son did get worse as far as emotional explosiveness goes and relating to his peers socially. Guest guest
This sounds a lot like my son when he was younger. She sound more like Aspergers, which is on the autistic spectrum but they can socilaize some, and they can go to school and funtion. But you will notice " quirky' traits, like the biting. My son is 12 and to this day still plays with his ear and he used to play with mine and anyone else if they were around. He told me it calms him. I believe she may have more of a central nervous sytems " dysfunction, which could be sensory integrartion dysfunction.Occupational therapy, and cranio-sacral work really helped my son.And diet improved it as well. He never plays with anyone's ears( but he is now 12, so I'm sure he figured that out on his own!) and he only rarely fiddles with his own. This and the biting are sensory -seeking traits, easily reduced or elimatd with occuptional therapy. But the diet will also help as some foods seems to aggravate the condition. Hope that helps, > > I put my daughter (3 1/2) on SCD about two weeks ago. I am > seeing that a lot of kids on this forum are autistic.
