It takes at least six to eight weeks to see any improvement, but it was amazing how much better and healthier my nails are now. I also had PA problems in my toenails and I use this product on them and it has helped tremendously. You use it twice a day...it is just a clear liquid...no mess at all. I usually order two at a time for convenience. >> I didn't really know I had PA until 3 1/2 yrs. ago. And I have very few if any P areas.. I sure do have the PA and am on all the pred, meth, plaq, folic acid, celebrex and am doing just fine. However, I've had acrylic nail for 10 yrs. I used to pick my nail or bite them so decided to have the acrylic put on. During that time I had fungus in about 7 diff nails at different times and would lose the nail and when the new one came out enough I'd have a new nail put on. I am a nurse so would keep it cleaned out and put anti fungul liq on it and it would be fine. Never thought about it being related to P. I also have it in both big toes and get it cleared up. I met a neighbor and her fingers looked odd and then realized she had real sausage fingers. This lady said she never has any pain like arthritis. I am learning finally what all of you are talking about. Am thankful for the way I an as so many of you suffer so much in having to go through so much to get your skin cleared up the best you can. God Bless you. My prayers are with all of you and thanks for all your input and info. Betty in Va.
Guest guest
Hi, Mine are just an off color with a yellowish tint...I don't mean like a bright canary yellow or anything like that. I think some of the others in the group have mentioned it about theirs. And it happens gradually, I've had PS since 76, and PA for about 5 years. I'm just now really noticing it and I don't think it's because of diet. I think it's probably caused from P and A combination. I'm no expert so check with the others also. Guest guest
Hi I never associated my nails improving and attaching to the nail beds with the sulfasalazine. I definitely have to mention it to my rheumy today when I see her. Barb

My nails improved significantly while I was driving that truck and I assumed that it was cause I was out in the sun a few hours at a time several days a week but I wasnt eating bread much like I would grab a sandwich at home. I did still eat crackers during that time though. Orin

Guest guest
The only thing that helped my nails is Enbrel. For me PA primarily affects my hands. I can actually gauge how much Enbrel I should be taking by the condition of my nails. Deteriorated nails are a pretty good indicator for active disease. By then I have more stiffness and pain of course but if you have permanent joint damage like me sometimes its hard to determine what is just there and forever and what is an accelerating flare as far as soreness and stiffness goes. If they start to recede I do the injections more frequently. Also the more I use my hands the more affected they are so I don't work with my hands like I used to. Writing extensively seems to really aggravate my thumb. Re: [ ] Nails My nails improved tremendously for the first 6 months I was on MTX and Folbee (mega-dose of folic acid and B vitamins). Then I flared up, and my nails started cracking and peeling again, despite the treatment remaining the same. --

I really can't help much, except that I use 350mg milk thistle per day. You can check that description against the other two nail links I have on my site, see if there might be another reason for it. http://www.skinatlas.com/nails.htm http://www.pathlights.com/nr_encyclopedia/03extr02.htm Dana
Guest guest
Dear Melinda, It's really hard to make a diagnosis just seeing a picture... you need to go to an M.D. and ask for laboratory test. The doctor will perform a detailed medical history, x Rays and liver test as transaminases, phosphatases bilirrubine, and other test that can make the diagnosis. Cirrosis is completelly treatable, and reversible to normal working of the liver... Here in Mexico we use with great recovering results, and it's natural derived from plants, name LEGALON. If you need more info pleaee let me know. M.D. On 1/28/07, danasview <danasview@...> wrote: > > > > The coorelation with liver cirrhosis is scary. Guest guest
Hi I was just watching Dr. Usmans lecture (again) and she said, " what spots on nails, zinc deficincy, vertical lines on nails, fatty acid deficiency " Just thought I'd add this to the 'nail' topic Janice
Guest guest
Maybe you just have Psoriasis? That can cause nail problems by itself. Common symptoms are brittle nails, ridges, nails that are discolored or easily break. Stay Well,
Guest guest
I am so glad that someone has brought this up! My daughter's nails are horrible and the nails on her left foot are getting bad too. The derm said that there is nothing for her, although I was putting on some of her topicals around the cuticle area and I tried putting some under the nail when it seperated to get to the bed that was still attached. It did help a little bit. After that, I just cut the nail back so that it won't get caught and tear off. I am worried about the fact that she may get PA, as it has not happened yet that I know of, she has large joints anyway. The one thing that I have been pondering was going gluten free as some others here have posted. I have read that it can change a lot of some other issues to a persons health. I am kind of hoping that it would get rid of the psoriasis. She is only 6% covered on her body, but that is enough to make her feel self concious and she is only eight. The pitting and waves started this past fall. Anyone have anything new to add for the nail p I would LOVE to hear it!
Guest guest
My toenails were diagnosed as fungus twice! One time was a podiatrist. My favorite response is that it was " cured " both times with Enbrel. What more definitive proof that it's part of my PsA is there?
