Guest guest
, A pseudocyst of that size IS a serious risk for your husband, and it is considered advisable to drain or remove one that's this large. It's been medically determined that any pseudocyst over the size of 6 cm. needs careful monitoring, and if the size increases, it needs to be dealt with. The major concern is of pseudocyst rupture, which can be a serious complication, resulting in shock and hemorrhaging of the pseudocyst with leakage into the retroperitoneum or peritoneal cavity. All of the options that you listed are standard procedures for treating pseudocysts. His specialist should be notified immediately, and should advise your husband on what action he decides is necessary at this time. Since he is out of town, when you call the specialist to tell him about the new MRCP film, I would suggest that you ask him whether he feels it necessary for your husband to return home early. If the pseudocyst is gaining in size, physician's sometimes want to wait until it has fully matured and developed a thicker exterior wall, which makes it easier to drain or remove. Depending upon where in, or on, the pancreas the pseudocyst is located, surgery may be the only course of action. No two cases are the same, it would be up to the specialist to determine what the best choice is for your husband. If your husband were to experience any strong increase in abdominal pain, fever or chills, it's imperative that he go to the ER immediately. These are the symptoms of a rupture, and time is of the essence! If this were to happen, he would need immediate medical attention. For the time being, he needs to avoid any abdominal strain, injury or trauma. Don't wait for the specialist to call you, call his office yourself and insist that you be able to speak with him personally. I'm very sorry that this has happened, but it does sound as though your husband has a competent specialist, and I trust that this doctor will do everything he needs to, to treat your husband promptly and skillfully. Please keep in touch with us and let us know what decision is made. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
