My twins say their eyes hurt

My boys have been on the diet for two weeks now. Prior to the diet,

their eyes had become sensitive in the bath. We used to be able to

dump water right over their heads but now they say " owe eyes, eyes! "

Now my one twin is whining about his eyes even more. We are on (as

perscribed by our naturalpath dr) Probiotics 30 billion (I thought

this might be too much)which we started yesterday, and Omega 3

supplement EPA/DHA (pharmaceutical quality). They had one teaspoon

yesterday and one today.

They are very sensitive today. Is this the die off that everyone is

discussing? They keep crying out for honey and juice. They are eating

quite a bit too. I hope all this is normal. I know the book says it

gets worse before it gets better but...

The twins have been diagnosed with regressive autism.

They have speech, which has regressed but stable, (thanks to the

diet.)They had are quite coordinated but on this diet they are clumsy.

Twin B does a lot of scripting, (not as much since the diet) and twin

A has become VERY VERY weepy on this diet. I am still awaiting more

supplements as advised by the naturalpathic dr. I could not find

" legal " ones here so I had to order them from the US. (I live in Canada)

I am wondering if the eye thing has anything to do with calcium

absorbtion. (I think I read that on another site)

Any info about anything above would be helpful. I am in a world of my

own where I live with many with little knowledge about Autism and ASD.

Thanks for your input,

Cindy

Are the twins receiving occupational therapy...preferably from a therapist

experienced with sensory issues? I know that on the questionaire for the

Peabody OT eval some of the questions ask about eye sensitivity to light or

dark. Regardless of if it is an occupational therapy thing, I'd highly suggest

you getting them in to OT right away if they have regressive autism. You need

to be proactive instead of waiting until they really, really need it.

Dear Cathy, I don't know the answers to all your questions, but based on my

experience with my son (now 16), with regressive autism it can especially

important to go slowly with the probiotics and die off reactions. In the case

of my son, I had to introduce acidophulus very very slowly, otherwise he would

actually regress more. This was real regression, not just temporary die off.

In our case, slow steady healing has always been the way to go, nothing too

aggressive or too fast.

About their eyes, I really don't know. Is it possible that they never liked

having water in their eyes, but since the diet they are more able to express and

verbalize their feelings about it? Is it possible that they are actually

talking more, rather than their eyes hurting more? My son is talking more since

SCD.

Good luck with it all.

Mother of Virya age 16, autism, LKS, SCD since March 07
