Guest guest
I would also be more than happy to be a contact.I looked for contacts that either had similar starting weights as me,travelled from my geogrphical location, or were in my profession(nurse). I also made sure I talked with people who have had complications! This is a BIG decision, and you need to make sure you're talking with those that have had real problems(Pam Greer,Sharon Atkinson, etc.) I still believe this surgery is safe and effective, but only you can decide what is best for you.Do your research, and be committed to follow the regimine for LIFE! This IS NOT the easy way out! It's Sunday, and I'm preaching, sorry! Osler RN Cincinnati,Ohio MGB 2/21/00 272/185/?
Guest guest
Hi everyone! I am an MGB family wannabe. My name is Boyd and I would appreciate hearing from anyone. I am early in the process of meeting all my requirements and I even have a friend who wants us to have the surgery together so we can be " been there, done that " supports for each other close by. I am unemployed (against my will) and perhaps if I lost my " other body " I could get taken seriously and go out there, get hired and do what I do best!!! I hope this will not affect Dr. R accepting me. It is so great to read all these supportive and informative E-mails and know that not only will this surgery change my body, but it will bring with it a huge group of emphathic and compassionate friends!! I am so excited about this. Please bear with me, I tend to be on the " chatty " side. I have two very, very supportive doctors, one is my OB/GYN and the other is my PCP. They know me for many years now. I also have a supportive husband of 17 years!! I think this will be in my favor for approval. I need to know if anyone can tell me about experiences with Alabama BC/BS, (trying to get this surgery approved). I am determined that I will get this surgery and be a normal mother for my children. I try, but they have a hard time when mom gets stuck in ride seats at the theme parks. There is a normal size person in all this fat scatching and clawing to get out and play. I look in the mirror and she looks back at me with puppy-dog eyes begging to be let out. I can't help myself, if I think I will fit on a ride, I get on it (hopefully the paramedicas do not have to get me " out " of it). I know people who had the " open body cavity " surgery, and had major complications. This procedure looked like GOD speaking to me. Minimally invasive, outpatient, short recovery time, and a good strong support group of pre-op and post-op. I read about the others and never could bring myself to the point of committment because of the complications and open surgery with months of recovery times. I am now officially turning this over to GOD. Any prayers would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks everyone, I look forward to hearing from you and getting my " 10 " contacts and beginning on my being a " 10 " , Boyd Montgomery, Alabama ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Hi , thanks for wanting to be a contact person, i work at my PCP office as a medical secretary ( just started one week ago) before i started working for him i had asked him if he knew of the gastric bypass surgery and he told me he only knew of a case from 15 years ago. and this person had a lot of problems, and he really never said much more, so im going to be giving him this site to look up and keep dropping info on his desk all the time . ( i might fired) oh well! LOL but i did talk with my OBGYN and he is all for it and said he would do anything i needed him to do , and this was a smart decisions on my part. and i should have his letter this week ! and he was going to look up this site this weekend, (Hi Dr A ) so there is half the battle, and i am getting some family letters done already, let me just say, that i asked my mother to write me a letter and she is not the type to jump on things, ( i usually have to really get on her ) but i asked her to write it for me and i got the letter two days later. this was very shocking ,i guess she is worried about me , more than i thought!. i really would like to here from as many people as i can, the good the bad and the ugly stories. like you said you can never have enough info, i love to read about every ones success stories, and havent heard of anyone having major problems. if there is anyone who had or knows of any major problems please feel free to e-mail me. i could just keep going on and on, it seems like i cant get enough to read. im on this thing (computer ) every free moment looking up more info. hope to here from you soon. Guest guest
Dear , I was denied by BC/BS of Ala because I had not met their criteria, namely 2x ideal weight (as determined by the MetLife tables) for more than two years. This is far in excess of NIH guidelines and would make a good lawsuit for someone, but unfortunately not me. I'm now 4 days post-op, and am self-pay. If you check the criteria, Dr. Rutledge does want you to be employed or a home builder, but not in turmoil in your employment. I encourage you to e-mail him directly about the specifics of your situation to see if that would be an impediment. Best of luck to you! Guest guest
Dear Jon, Thanks for the reply. I hope I don't have to fight BC/BS too much. Maybe with that information I could coax them to let me have the surgery. I will be in school in January for another Masters (Special Ed this time) in hopes of a local school system hiring me. The job marget is so terrible here in Montgomery for my field (mental health and paralegal). I am not a house wife by any stretch of the imagination, just ask my husband!!! I have yet to be domesticated!!! I will not be able to be a self-pay. I have two doctors who are willing to refer me for this surgery and I have some medical issues that might help. Would you be willing to be a contact for me, another Alabamian? Thanks, ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Dear , I'd be happy to be a contact for you, but I'd rather wait a couple of weeks until I make sure I have no surgical complications. E-mail me a reminder, say, around Dec. 10. Best to you! Jon > > Dear Jon, > Thanks for the reply. Guest guest
Dear Jon, That is fine, I am so glad that you feel well enough for e-mail. You will be dancing in the streets soon, I am sure!! Thanks for being a contact. I heard from someone else in Alabama who was approved by BCBS, maybe there is hope for me. Get some rest and let me know how you are doing, i will watch for your e-mails to the group. Thanks, ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
