You wrote, " I think we should have a get together here in SC, maybe dinner or

something. "

That would be wonderful! I know that Heidi, SC State Chapter Representative

is wanting to do that, too. The next time you are the hospital plan some extra

time and drop by the ERCP department, GI social worker department, nurses on

main pancreatitis floor, etc., to introduce yourself as a member of the SC

State PAI Chapter. Ask them if there might be someone with pancreatitis that

doesn't get many or any visitors that might enjoy a short hello. I have never

been

turned down. I try and limit myself to five minutes, although, as you can

imagine, once you say, " Hi, I'm , I have pancreatitis, too, " the flood gates

are open, and they could talk and ask questions all day. I give them my card

and encourage them to get in touch anytime they want online or by phone.

Remember that the PAI has a toll free phone line: .

Most major medical centers have computer access for patients, at least the

older pediatric patients. It may be worth checking with the social worker to see

if this 'lifeline' was available, especially if they could log on for the

Wednesday chat. One of the PAI goals is to have PAI designated laptops available

to members. Computers are relatively easy to come by. Indianapolis has a large

computer recycling program. After training and very few hours volunteering,

you can leave with one for yourself and the basic PC knowledge you learned.

The Greater Indianapolis Area PAI Chapter meets at Indiana University Medical

Center. That way inpatients can attend, as well, as people who may have had

an appointment that day may be able to stay a little later for the 'meeting.'

The cafeteria accommodates small groups with different tucked away dining

areas. It's casual, comfortable, and affordable. Any department is always

willing

to accept an invitation to do a short presentation followed by questions and

answers, such as dietary or pharmacy. We are thinking about starting something

regular for the next three months to kick up interest in the symposium in

September!

I spoke to Heidi this afternoon and she said that she decided to drive from

SC to Indianapolis for the symposium, instead of fly. That way she can pick up

whomever wants to be part of this exciting event! She had so much fun last

time, she wants to make sure others can experience it, too. Although she said

she

was picking up anyone in any state in between, she did make reference to

having the largest state chapter representation present.

Hmmmm? Come on Indiana....
