Guest guest
Hello Everyone, Today is my 1st day back to work since my surgery on May 9, 2005. It seems that the procedure has helped with the pain although the hospital stay was a nightmare. After surgery my blood pressure was too low for me to receive any pain medication. The Dr. at first thought I had a collapsed lung so I had to go to x-ray and during that time my IV became blocked. The dr. ordered an IV nurse to come in that night to restart but she was unable to do so. After the 3rd try and no pain meds I was in alot of pain. By 8am the next morning (Tues) I had not passed any urine and it was very important to get fluids in me. My nurse finally got it on the 1st try (that was the only chance I would give her) in of all places my thumb. I had an excellent vein there. she said she use to work pediatrics and that was how she became so good. I got a whole bag of fluids with in an hour and my bloodpressure finally was normal so I got my pain med (2 lortab 7.5) I had been on oxycontin 80mg bid but never recieved it while I was in the hospital. I went home and started my oxy again and on Thursday my mom said she didn't think I should still be on that because it wasn't on my d/c order only the lortab. She took it home that day and by saturday I was hallucenating. I say spiders everywhere and felt like I was being hit in the head with an axe. I remember jerking alot like a seizure. and I have epilepsy. I even woke up several times screaming at the top of my lungs. I stayed in bed sweating profusely and freezing and jerking and such. Sunday I felt a little better but still edgy and irriatable. Monday I got worse again and told my mom to bring me back my oxycontin until I could get ahold of my pain doctor to get off this medicine. It is Tuesday and I have yet to hear from him. I am happy to say that over the few days I was off the oxy I did not have any panc pain just my back is sore. After getting 2 doses of my oxy I felt better and was able to cook dinner for my kids. The wanted of all things Jumbalya with sausage. It is my absolute favorite. I never ate it before because it would make my panc hurt well it didn't this time. I only had a little. I wanted to say THANK YOU to the ones who sent me get well wishes I love ya guys!!! Guest guest
Patty that is really terrific that the block appears to be succesful. I hope it last years and years. Did the doc tell you how long it was expected to last? Do you think your reaction, the aggitation and hallucinations, were withdrawel from the Oxy or an allergic reaction to the lortab? It kind of sounds a little like withdrawel to me. I had something similiar when I stopped taking demerol except no hallucinations. Albeit my reaction was much milder then yours it was an awful feeling, and lasted about 3 days. They have put me on Oxycontin and Oxycodone for BT after last weeks surgery. Are you back to taking the same dose as before your op? I'm glad your doing well and enjoyed your Jambalya. That is one of my favs too. My youngest's birthday is coming up and that is what she has requested for her special dinner. We will have to compare recipes one day. Hope you hear from your doc soon and that is fantastic that you are feeling so much better. When is the graduation? You'll be dancing in the streets..LOL!! Guest guest
, I'm pretty sure it was withdrawls. I just left another message with the pain doctor about getting off the oxy asap. As far as the length the block is suppose to last.....the doctor said he hopes for 2years at least. My son graduates from high school on May 28, 2005. OH MY GOD!!! MY BABY HAS GROWN UP!!! Where in the hexx did the time go. It won't be long before I will have grandchildren....well at least another 10 years.ha ha. Guest guest
Chrisitine! How are you! I have just got back after a few days of not getting online and saw where you were posting. I have not caught up yet. I have had a rough few weeks so I started at the bottom, the newest emails and am working my way back to the oldest. So I am sorry that I missed your " comeback " . I hope you are well! Take care, Angie in SC " The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything that comes along their way. Guest guest
2 years, thats awesome!! Have you talked with your doc yet? Maybe if you were to taper down the oxy that will help with the withdrawels. You were on a hefty dose for a long time. Withdrawing is expected, unfortunetly. My eldest graduated last year and her dad and I were talking, we will probably be grandparents within the next 10 years!! Yup where did the time go. Shoot I am not getting older tho, I am just now getting it right. Take care,
