Guest guest
Since having the tp-ict last november ny BS's have been great and I would often hypo if I took the insulin. Now I am on a bit of a sliding scale based on what my sugars are a couple of hours after eating. However, since I was discharged from the hospital last week my sugars have gone up, really up in the 200's. This morning my fasting sugars was 153, its never been that high. I have been in a lot of pain and am taking oxycontin and oxycodone for it. I was wondering if any of ya'll with diabetes have expereinced an increase in Bs's when in a lot of pain or from those meds. I had a very small dinner tonight and checked it later and it was 120, so thats not too bad but it still has me concerned. The surgeons told me they were no where near my liver or portal vein during the surgery so I dont thinkthere is a chance they messed them up. It has me rther confused. I saw the plastic surgeon today and asked him how big was the incisional hernia when he got in there. He held up his hands and gestured about a foot. I asked him, 12 inches? Yes or alittle more. My goodness no wonder I was so sick from that blasted thing. I told him about the extremem pain and he said they used the muscles on both sides of my abdomen from just below my chest to just above my hip bone and then had to separate those muscles around it to accommodate such a large defect. He also said it took a5 hours to repair and no doubt that I was in a lot of pain. He was abit stingy with the pain meds tho. He did remove one of the jp drains, so thats good and he wants to see me back next week. I will also see the GI surgeon then as well. I sure as heck hope that this is my last surgery, forever! Thanks for all ya'lls help and support, I truly appreciate it. Warmly,
Guest guest
The stress of the body healing, and the pain that is caused from the surgery would explain high blood sugars. I usually know that I am getting sick with a cold by my blood sugars, not my physical symptoms. Crystal Galloway
