Hi everyone:

I noticed that there are others from Wisconsin in the group, and was

wondering if you have any recommendations for a good doctor.

I had a good doctor, was forced to change because of insurance issues with

Aurora, and now I've switched to a doctor who is making me jump through

hopes, like having to call every week to get a new script for pain.

Thanks!

Dear Bob,

That stinks that you had to switch from an MD you liked. Are you willing

to travel or are you looking for local? I travel far for all my medical

appointments. My pancreas MD is Dr. Glen Lehman (Indiana). My GI/Liver team

is at the University of Chicago (Illinois). There are several other members who

live in Wisconsin. perhaps they have closer recommendations. Let me know if I

can give you additional information.

Love,

Hi Bob,

Unfortunately, I do not know of any good pancreas doctor in the

area of Wisconsin that I live / work in. The lesser of the evils is

the aurora group at St Luke's Milwaukee, but I guess that is out

of the question now with your insurance issues.

Can you get into a pain management physician through your

insurance? If so, this doctor may be able to supply you with

scripts to last one to three months. My pain doc is able to write

me three months worth of scripts at one visit. She just dates

them with a " do not dispense until " notation and I hand in all

three to the pharmacy at one time and the pharmacist fills them

when the " do not dispense date " is reached. That way, I am only

taking up four office visit time slots a year. I can recommend the

pain management group at the medical college of wisconsin

out-patient clinics but I cannot recommend any MCW pancreas /

GI MDs, nor can I recommend the hospital that is affiliated with

the medical college. However, the pain clinic is good. If you'd like

I can even recommend my pain doc, she is at least familiar with

the whole pancreas life-style now that I have become her patient.

We are both learning as we go.........

The only other thing that I can think of off hand is Mayo Clinic in

Rochester. Depending on where you live in Wisconisn, this clinic

may be the closest one to you that offers good pancreas care.

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for the reply. I had no qualms with St. Lukes. My first attack they

sent me there and then they didn't know much about it... My nurse told me

that they usually see that with people who drink... Etc. Not from high

triglycerides.. By my third attack, which kept me in there several months,

they seemed to know a lot more how to treat it, although I did go a few

rounds with the pain clinic doctors they sent up towards the end of my stay.

I have had 3 or 4 experiences with pain clinics and all of them were bad.

The last two doctors wouldn't listen when I told them I had been down the

road they wanted me to take before and it was bad news. The meds they

wanted to try cause more problems with me. The third round with them, I

gave in and tried that way and things got worse. On the fourth round, I

just got my doctor in the room, explained it all to him, and told him I

didn't want to see those guys.

I guess I have resigned myself to reactive care instead of proactive.
