Guest guest
Hey everyone. It has been a while since I've been on here. Here is a post of mine from way back to refresh your memory: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/53563 We ended up going off the intro diet because there was so little that we were able to introduce and tolerate. I went on a strict rotation diet of SCD legal foods and that started to help some. Then I started taking digestive enzymes and that really helped me to tolerate more foods and to not have to follow such a strict rotation diet. I also discovered that I was very copper overloaded, and once I started watching my intake of high copper foods, I made extreme gains in my energy levels. We eventually added back in a few grains (rice, quinoa, oatmeal) because I thought maybe the enzymes were working so well that we could tolerate them. Well, after 6 months or more, I noticed that my son's behavior was really going down hill. He could be labelled ADHD these days. We tried Feingold, but things actually kept getting worse, it seemed like we were never going to make it out of stage one and were actually going backwards to more like stage .5. I also was starting to get joint pain again from eating rice. So I sucked it up and admitted that the enzymes were not really breaking down all these complex foods we had tried adding in. I also came to the conclusion that Feingold wasn't really working for us either. Their had to be a better way to deal with the salicylate problem. So I came across SCD again. It made sense that healing the gut problems would resolve the salicylate problem eventually. So I knew we had to go back on the SCD. That is where we are today. A few weeks back into the SCD, although we didn't do the intro diet this time (yet, I do plan on doing so). We can tolerate dripped yogurt (woohoo, we couldn't before!). I also am able to get by on less carbs than before if I make sure that I am eating enough healthy fats. (woohoo, my body is finally working the way it should). We have seen some improvement with teh addition of the yogurt in my son's stools. He will occasionally now have a firmish mass amongst the loose and messy stuff. This is exciting! But I feel like some foods he is not tolerating and we really do need to try the intro diet again and start from scratch so that I can make sure he is only eating things he can tolerate. My health issues are 90% resolved. I am living a mostly normal life these days. But my son's stools and behavior are still problematic. This journey started out with me healing myself, and now that my son's behavior issues are understood as being related to his gut issues, it has morphed into a quest to bring that sweet boy out and keep the demon child at bay, to heal his poor little guts and allow him to have normal stools. If anyone is interested, my personal healing journey can be read here: http://windraven.smugmug.com/gallery/1651983 I need to update it soon with our latest discoveries and with more about my son and his journey. Oh yeah, I discovered that we have yeast issues as well. Mine are mostly under control, but I'm not sure about my son's. Because of the yeast and because of his constant loose stools, I'm thinking of completely removing fruit for a little while (we only have grapefruit and melon and occasionally a peeled pear currently). What are some good snack ideas that don't include fruit but still have some carbs? Also, once we reintroduce fruit, what are some easy ways to include cooked fruit as snacks? We can't tolerate nut flours, so many of the baking recipes are out for us. Okay, well enough of my rambling. I'm glad to be back on the SCD and am smacking myself for ever going off of it in the first place. K Hashi's, CFS, Fibro, Rheumatoid arthritis (mostly in recovery!!!!) Son Rhowan, 4.5 yrs (loose stools, ADHD behavior) Daughter Willow 6 yrs (mostly healthy but salicylate intolerance) SCD take two, a few weeks into it now
