Guest guest
Hi all! Just confessing to a stupid weakness yesterday which has given me a really tough day today following a difficult evening. Our Yr 11 students (16 year-olds) officially " left " school yesterday. [They will be coming in over the next few weeks to do their GCSEs......public examinations which give qualifications which are the passport to the next stage of education..... and most will then start again with us on a new series of studies in September. However, some will be leaving us to go on to other colleges or to apprenticeships or even, occasionally, into employment.] Anyway, the point is....it's a big day! Lots of presents etc. I got quite a few chocolates and I'm afraid I succumbed and ate some......several!!! I can manage one now and then but this was a disaster. I have been in agony all day. Why do we (I....I mean!) do such stupid things? A meal out withj friends was ruined last night as I couldn't eat anything because of the pain and discomfort and a day out in Sothport (nearby seaside resort with lovely shops etc.) fell completely flat because my pain level has been so high. I'm now about to collapse into bed with a hot water bottle and my strongest painkillers. Seems unfair doesn't it? But I do know better. What a price to pay! It's interesting that I wasn't able to compensate for that high fat content by taking extra Creon. Just doesn't seem to work that way. From now on.....as usually in the recent past.....the chocs will go to lucky members of my family! Take care everyone! Fliss (UK)
Guest guest
Fliss, maybe you took them because you're only human, and it's only natural to be tempted, especially by something that one can't or shouldn't have...and at times we just want to be able to eat/drink like the rest of the well population can. I have thought many times to myself...perhaps if I just tried a bit more, or what if I just have 1 glass s, but at these times, i've been away from home without my husband, so have decided against it as I'd hate to be stuck in a hospital with no husband around to look after our daughter... It could have worked the other way also..you could have had as many as you did and not have had any increase in pain..but life is just one big learning tool, and even us with chronic illnesses need to indulge once in a while. Another way to look at it is, your mind subconciously told you to take more than one, and another and another before your senses regained control *Laugh* I at least hope you enjoyed them as it sounds like it won't or will be a long time before it ever happens again... Guest guest
Dear sweet Fliss, dont beat yourself up over this; I think your panc is doing that for you. I think it is safe to say that we all have done that at one time or another. The inconsistencies of this disease can sometimes give us a false sence of security. I know that one day I could succumb to my weakness for cheese and then the next week it will have me hurling with agonizing pain. One day I could have a boiled egg then the next couldn't. I never understood why that was. Its a pity that a momentary weakness could ruin a lovely evening, I'm sorry for that. Oh and about the enzymes. I am still just taking one creon 10 with meals and am thriving. Except for the slight anemia and a low calcium level I am doing very well and have even been worried about gaining weight. I started taking iron pills and drinking more milk so those problems were solved. If I eat a large meal or a coursed meal I will take more, otherwise I am doing just fine. Well atleast I feel fine and the docs have not told me otherwise, yet. I do hope you feel better soon and if you have any chocs you need to get rid of please feel free to mail them to this poor lill'l ole southern belle. Give Jim and the boys my best and take care. Love, Chrissy
Guest guest
Hey Fliss, Depending upon my frame of mind, if it had been me with those boxes of choc's staring me in the face, I probably would have done much the same!! Some days I can resist, other times the temptation overwhelms and one has to " just have a few " ...... So sorry that you were lured by temptation and then had to suffer as a result. Losing out on what could have been a delightful dinner with friends, and a lovely tour the following day, no doubt has " cured " you of succumbing to the temptation in the future. I've always " liked " chocolate, but have become a chocolate addict since CP hit me. I prefer milk chocolate to the dark chocolate, but sadly will accept either one if they are offered. Even knowing that I will suffer from gas afterward is sometimes not enough of a penalty to make me resist, thus combining my selfish folly into an unpleasant experience for all of those around me.....does this happen to anyone else here who eats this forbidden fruit? And now that they make " sugar free " chocolate, there's even more temptation, even though most of the sugar free products still have a heafty carb count of approx. 24 carbs per bar/piece. There is one brand I've found that's made with Splenda and sugar alcohol called Carbolite or something similar that has an adjusted net of only 1 carb, and those are my preferred choice. I can eat one of those and experience no rise in BG's, making them my favorites. I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry that your special days were overshadowed with pain and discomfort, and that I hope you're feeling better by the time this post appears. In the future, I'd be more than happy to help be your conscience, and you could just send those boxes of chocs to me so I can make sure that you don't eat any....
