Guest guest
Kimber, I experienced massive weight gain when I started having my first few attacks of pancreatitis. I believe that even though it causes many to be very thin it can cause the oppossite. I think the endocrine side of things gets very out of whack and causes weight gain. Additionally having an inflammed pancreas chronically can cause one to hold a lot of water. I know during an attack of pancreatitis I had put on up to 20 lbs in a few days and lose it when the pancreas would calm down. After a year of off and on acute pancreatitis I gained about 60 lbs! I was eating much less because I couldn't stand the pain yet I was gaining like a monster! Well once I had my pancreas removed I lost the weight even faster than I gained it. Of course I know diabetes out of control causes one to lose weight, and losing one's pancreas causes absorption issues and that causes weight loss as well, but I think getting that diseased thing out of me allowed me to return closer to my normal balance. Prior to be sick I weighed 180 pounds. I am relative stable nowadays and I weigh 170. I do believe pancreatitis can cause both weight loss and weight gain. > I too am overweight and have had CP since 1986 (officially, but since I > have it due to a birth defect, I've been fighting it off all my life. Guest guest
Yeah, I know all about that water retention. I'm currrently having a problem with it myself. I'm taking lasix and it just isn't helping enough. I'm still carrying about twenty pounds of water right now. I hate it. Unfortunately, having my pancreas removed is not an option righ tnow as I am already a diabetic. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
